I'm 56. I have worked hard my entire life. He is 100% correct. Luxury is overrated. Security for you and your family is important. Simplicity is much better than having a lot of stuff.

The best years of my life were when I sold everything, packed a bag, and lived in a park for three and a half years while I worked and saved all my money. Never spent a dime on anything. Complete and total freedom in the truest sense of the word. The more money I saved, the less important it became because I also learned how to get by without it. Maximizing money while minimizing dependence on it is peak freedom.

It's not that you don't need money, it's that you don't need as much as you think you need.

I drive a car that is 20 years old. I'm 42. I stopped working full time last year and I now work 2 days a week - this covers my bills. I want time while I'm healthy enough to appreciate it.

When I was a kid (80s) I worked on farms to be able to afford my first computer to learn to code. Today I make large database run faster with software to be able to afford living on a farm with many animals (large and small). Money is a tool to achieve your goals. It's been more than 3 weeks since I left my property. I see more animals that people and love this "simpler" life.

Always a fun time listening to millionaires telling how unimportant money is.

People mostly want money for freedom, not material consumption.

Step One: Ignore any celebrity
Step Two: Stop comparing
Step Three: Buy ONLY what you need. If money if left over, then buy ONLY minimal amount of something to you just enjoy.
Step Four: Put everything else into savings, such as a simple account at Fidelity and use some mixture of index funds.
Step Five: Be married to a person who has simple taste and enjoys simple living.
Step Six: Think of money as security (like a blanket) and not as something to actually spend constantly.
Step Seven: Try to get to where you can live simple life on your passive income from your brokerage.

Am 58 retiring next year but the thought of retirement gives me weakness. My apologies to everyone who have retired and filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you never imagined to happen. It’s so difficult for people who are retired and have no savings or loved ones to fall back on.

You absolutely right. People with money saved up and don’t use their whole paycheck can operate differently. They can tell a boss “no” without the fear of losses their job without becoming behind in finances.

Companies take advantage of people who use their whole check and have no savings.

Money does buy you freedom to a certain extent which can be life-changing, however it does get to a point where it doesn't make as much of a difference

When people financially free, their mind is on another level. I think its worth it to have more money if you use it to help unfortunate people.

As a technologist, whose beginning to realize that maybe the solutions to most of our society's ills may not be found via technology, listening TechLead is a fresh breath of air.

I quit my job and spent the last 8 years living in very cheap countries, travelling a lot and doing freelance work to stay afloat. I recently decided to bring my coding skills up to date and did a bunch of courses. Because I'm not doing it for money, I really love it. It's the 9-5 jobs that suck all the life out if it.
