Motorcycle Chain Vs Belt Which is Better?

In today's ask a motorcycle guy video we cover motorcycle chains vs motorcycle belts. I was recently asked by one of you, my awesome youtube community, what my opinion is on motorycle chains vs belts. Which is better? Here we go!

When it comes to motorcycle drive systems I think they each have their purpose and each have bikes that they work best with.

Chains are a lighter and a slightly better direct transfer of power to the ground, however belts are lower maintenance and longer lasting...so there are motorcycle belt pros and cons as well as motorcycle chain pros and cons. I have owned chain driven motorcycles and belt driven motorcycles, I love them both!

belt broke at 32k and its a major repair to replace, switching to chain for the simple repair and availability of chain. you can change your chain on the side of the road, belt you have to remove your primary. HD.

Thinking a belt might be right for me. With all the research I have been doing on bikes I am all over the place. Lately I think the best bike for me might be the Yamaha Bolt. I just wish it came with ABS. If they do I don't find any used ones with it.

Everything you mentioned makes a lot of sense, and I fully agree One important question, do you know of any shops in the San Francisco CA area that would do a conversion from chain to belt drive? I tried all the ways I know how to find such a shop, but no luck I'd greatly appreciate your help on this I just came upon this channel by chance I'll keep watching from now on Thanks and have a good one

As usual, Alex, great info! Thanks! My beast is, of course, belt-drive (Kawi VN2K), so I'm kinda partial...

If you are upgrading a road glide from 88 to 95ci and perform 585 cams and new performance exhaust and new air intake is chain better way to go to handle the big power and torque increase than a belt?

I can't even find a belt for my bike. And that's why I'm converting to chain... I'd rather have the belt.

Belts are actually lighter than a chain

I take it that converting sport bikes to belt drive is not a thing so much? I don't see any videos instantly popping up on Bart Simpson school of thought says I should give up

Belt drive is the least efficient of all drive systems shaft second and chain the most efficient - that is a scientific fact not my opinion.Sorry if the facts have hurt anyones feelings. d.s.

Isn't it a lot harder to find a bike with a chain? Like if i want to get a KTM Duke series bike, they don't have belts on them. So basically, if you want a certain bike it either has a chain or a belt. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Well if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, a chain can get you down the road

I can’t believe no Beamer guys have come in here yelling about a drive shaft yet 😆
