Why Did Israelites SACRIFICE Children?!

"The Bible makes numerous condemnations of the ancient Israelites sacrificing their children to another derivation of Baal called Moloch, who was associated with Saturn. As god of the underworld, the dying-god was also a chthonic deity, or god of the Underworld, and therefore typically associated with evil. According to the principles of apotropaic magic, the good god was appeased with good sacrifices, while the evil god required evil ones. The most evil sacrifice was the killing of a child. Rabbinical tradition depicted Moloch as a bronze statue heated with fire into which the victims were thrown. This has been associated with reports by Cleitarchus, Diodorus Siculus and Plutarch, who all mention the burning of children as an offering to Cronus or Saturn, that is to Baal Hammon, the chief god of Carthage. Cronus, also spelled Cronos or Kronos, in ancient Greek religion, is a male deity who was worshipped by the pre-Hellenic population of Greece. In Attica, his festival the Kronia celebrated the harvest and resembled the Roman Saturnalia."

Continue to dig and you’ll find that they, and many more, still do. Don’t be fooled by the year that we’re in. Ancient traditions still reign supreme, it’s just that they’re more hidden.

Peer pressure. The Israelites kept falling into what their neighbors were doing, in effect doubting their God.

The desecration of innocence, and the purest of souls. They believed their gods derived the most energy from the sacrifice of the little ones. Of course it could also have been a way for the elites to control their respective population of undesirables through their blind faith.

I believe they did it out of fear. They had some distorted pessimistic belief that it’s required from god to suffer, so I think they did it for the means of getting it over with. I could be wrong, but I truly believe I’m on the right track with what these ancient Israelites were thinking.

“We may hug the delusive phantom that we are a species of Israelites amongst our neighbors and nations, but let us not forget that Israel too did not escape the fiery furnace of punishment and retribution from god for all of its transgressions and back-sliding!”

On reason for human sacrifice is more than likely connected with an ancient cultures agricultural stability. An example is the contrast between ancient Egypt & the Mesopotamian & Levantine cultures like Babylon & Phonecia. Egyptian agricultural was highly stable because of the Niles stability, the fertile silt & its predictability. There is no history of human sacrifice to the gods in Egyptian history. You only have the predynastic practice of killing & burial of servants with the king they served when he died. The Tigris & Euphrates are far more volatile thus making farming more difficult. One could see how ancient Mesopotamians could evolve the feeling they needed a valuable sacrifice to recieve the valuable favor of good crops from the gods. Another culture that sacrificed humans prolifically was Meso America. Their agriculture systems were based off of corn. Corn is harder to grow & has far less nutrition than Wheat which is also extremely high yielding. In civilzations that had bountiful agricultural systems like ancient Egypt or say Rome we don't see human sacrifice but in others large ancient civilizations that had more difficult agricultural systems we see this practice last for centuries.
