I started playing guitar when I was 17 and I’m 22 so I haven’t been playing for that long but like honestly it just especially for me. Metal music it’s super therapeutic for me. And I’m also super into guitars as a result that is one of my hyper interest

Agreed! I love to sing, and play my guitar. It gives me a great buzz, and I feel much more relaxed, and less anxious afterwards. Recommended.

It's interesting as my daughter plays violin and is in an Orchestra. It's her therapy. Despite her anxiety she doest get nervous when playing in a concert.

When I started playing bass I started seeing the movement of my right hand (the one that plucks the strings) as a way of stimming. That's not the way I would describe the movements of my other instruments but singing is a stim for me as well. It calms me down, it makes me happy and also elevates my self-steem for some reason. It's great to hear there was a study on that!

I can attest to this! I’ve played lots of instruments as a result over the years. And please, if you think you’re too old, too rubbish…etc etc….I promise you you’re not!! There are really good teachers on youtube too with simple and visual guides to help. You can slow down lessons and repeat as often as needed it’s perfect for my asd adhd brain. Sadly I have a genetic condition which a lot of autistic people seem to have too called Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which affects collagen production and causes everything from Hypermobile joints that dislocate and sublux to acid reflux and so much more in between. It’s a spectrum condition too and so many people are undiagnosed so please look it up if you’re Hypermobile…double jointed…dislocate….have a lot of unexplained pain.
