What makes a good online lesson? (Real Students Answer)

What makes a student choose you as their teacher? How do you keep them happy and retain them as customers? Let’s face it: there are a lot of boring, low-quality online classes out there. But, there are also some remarkable online courses that engage students and help them learn in ways that are not always possible in a traditional classroom. It’s clear that designers of the best courses think outside the box, but what else does it take for a lesson to be amazing?

I really wanted to hear students´ opinion about online lessons, so luckily some of my students (Spanish speakers, most of them living in Ireland) were kind enough to share their experiences with us and help teachers out with some tips! I asked them two vital questions: What makes an online lesson outstanding? and "What are the qualities of a good online teacher?

Although different students have different opinions, they all agree on certain aspects: a good online course is engaging and challenging. It invites students to participate, motivates them to contribute and captures their interest and attention. Good online teachers know how to pace the tasks so that students are neither bored nor overloaded on any given week. Good online courses enhance learning by including interactive activities. Some of the best lessons allow students to bring some personal stuff into the lessons or focus on an element of the topic that they particularly enjoy.

Apart from being highly qualified, great online teachers teach creatively, make themselves accessible, provide proactive feedback, have tech skills. They also have supportive personal qualities, such as being adaptable, encouraging and teaching with passion. Being persistent, focusing on communication and helping them building confidence are also essential qualities. Uffff, it doesn´t sound easy, does it?

Mary always knows how to make you feel comfortable and cheer you up if you have a tough day . The way she teach is amazing because you don't notice that you are learning but you are . The most important thing about the way she teach is that you feel like talking with a friend that care about you and share her life experiences with you. Its a pleasure to have Mary as my English teacher .

Cool video! Thanks a lot!🥰 Mary do you use books at your lessons or you just make every lesson by choosing materials from the Internet? Do make any plan for the whole course?
