I did Rev for a few months. I actually loved it and there where quite a few jobs which I picked up from clients in my own country (New Zealand) but, you can really risk losing your account by picking up bad audio quality jobs, and/or jobs with heavy accents.
There are strict rules around the time you have to change your mind on a job, after picking it up, and also around delivery times - though each transcription is different. It can be fun and you can definitely make money from it but, it can also be a nightmare at 1am when you're still awake, transcribing, and you'd rather be sleeping in bed.

I tried Rev and it took me several hours to only make $20 total. I was only able to pass the test for captioning. Everyone picks all the good quality videos really fast before you can preview them and then the ones that are left are hard to understand.

Thanks, Kat. I've always been curious about doing transcription. It first caught my attention because one of my good friends is deaf and depends on subtitles. As we would watch a movie or video all I could think was 'WHO let THAT slide by?!' Some of the closed captions are spot-on, buuuut... some of them are horrendous! Really is a good opportunity now and it's so easy these days with all the apps competing with each other. There's a ton of people that doesn't know about apps like Descript that's extremely accurate, doing most of the work for you. You'll just need to go back and make some minor corrections. Then you can layer additional services like pulling out clips from the long-form content you're transcribing for short-form content with captions that can be repurposed for marketing. I use it all the time for my content.
