Here in Dallas the sky Pencil holly grows in full shade because it gets so hot and it's so sunny that the amount of indirect light it gets is plenty!

Jim, I've been watching a lot of videos lately and they've been a tremendous help in remodeling my entire yard. Just wanted you to know that. Also, the ending of this video is outstanding with the outtakes 😂

I have six sky pencils and I keep them in perfect shape with green twine. I add twine as it grows up. Five are aprox. 5 ft. and my older one is 7 ft and aprox 4 ft around. A perfect, no problem plant that adds character to my entrance and the tall one the side is beautiful and central to the rest of my garden. Other than twine for a stray branch and trim to even about twice a year on top only.

Will these hollies root system damage the foundation of a home or pipes underneath by their root systems? TIA

We just bought 3 of these at almost 7 feet each. Hope they grow to cover our windows in the afternoon sun which is unforgiving on that side of the house😊

My JPNH is about 3-years-old and a couple of branches are beginning to bend over, so I am wondering if I should cut those off or use twine to add support? The plant is only about 3ft tall and I did notice the bent branches during a rain but I believe it's happening after they dry as well.

Thank you! I’m thinking of planting the Pencil Holly between three baby blue evergreens that are now six feet tall, thirteen feet apart along my property line. I was thinking a little more touch of privacy and a nice different blending of texture and color. In front in that bed I have a lovely, growing in zigzags the 3-4 feet Black eye Susan’s, about 20+ that make a beautiful smaller hedge, almost or just touching in August. All in full sun so no mildew problems. I understand you are extremely busy and I value your time and opinion. I would totally appreciate your thoughts and expertise ❤ I’m making my gardens special for my husband and four children so they have a little piece of Heavens Eden garden…not that my gardens are anywhere close, but filling them with love. I have stage 4 colon cancer…hanging in there! But I understand reality 💕

There is only filtered sunlight where I want to plant in pots. Will that work for these shrubs.

I am planting two today. I lucked out and found two small ones for 5.00 each at the Farmer's Market, end of summer. I have a spot where I want two manageable evergreens. They have been in their pots for months, but I had purple fountain grasses in that location and they were too perfect to destroy. I kind of hate doing it even now, the grasses died when we got down to 30 degrees at night, but they still have their pretty form and I usually keep them until spring. I guess I have to take them out because my sky pencils need to get out of their cans.
