What he fails to mention is that those so called "political prisoners" were actually prisoners of war and high ranking members of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship (U.S. backed dictatorship).
During the rule of this dictatorship they would commit mass murders and torture the civilians of Cuba. Eventually the revolution took place and that resulted in war which the socialist revolutionaries would win. This of course came at a cost where Ché Guevara would lose a lot of close comrades during the fighting. There is even video footage showing the high ranking members of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship being put on trial and then executed by firing a squad of which Ché Guevara would sometimes partake
