The new prices are insane... Purchased a 2021 Tarmac SL7 expert for $5, 000 with a full ultegra DI2 groupset. Now with the comp being $5, 500 with 105?!?! Insanity...

In 2020, the Tarmac Comp was $3500... ridiculous.

It’s like they don’t want people buying new bikes. SL2-5 used, under $1000 and better bikes than any of these new bikes. I’m not against e-shifting or hydro disk road brakes. I just find it offensive that manufacturers are forcing it on everyone. I want to put my snowboard away at the end of winter, pull my bike out and ride it. I don’t want to charge or change batteries, update software, bleed my brakes, listen to my disks make noise, change the fluid in my tubeless/hookless wheels, sync my phone to my bike. It’s fine if you do, but I want the option to opt out. I guess that’s where Marketplace and those “old fashioned” SL 2-5 DuraAce bikes for <$1000 come in.

My next bike is definitely going to be the new SuperSix EVO. $5, 500 with the new 12 speed Ultegra Di2 and 50mm carbon wheels. And if you have an extra grand you can get it with the latest SRAM Force and R-S 50mm wheels. Is ridiculous Specialized charging these prices, but most ridiculous the people paying for it just because they want to have a bike that says Specialized on the side. Even for that price you can get a better bike from Giant.

Something really interesting about this comparison is that these two models are only $500 apart in Canada as opposed to $1, 000 USD different (I believe the specs are the same as the US). Highly unusual for the Canadian market is price differences are usually much greater due exchange rates.

Seems like you get a lot for your $1000 right there. And you're 100% correct - the lower pricing this year is a reflection of just how bad the cash grab was last year. I'd wager they realized they have ballooning inventory and the market isn't supporting the gouging prices, so semi return to normalesque (still expensive).

I got the comp about a month ago 25% reduced and on cycle to work scheme (UK - essentially the 40% that I would pay in income tax goes to the bike instead so real world 40% discount on top of the 25%). I added some Hunt 55 carbon rims tubeless set up and the power meter upgrade and handlebar which I will do soon are relatively cheap. Getting it out the box with 2 of these 3 upgrades is something I would've considered but I'm happier with being able to pick the wheels I wanted instead of the 38s. Also thinking about using some of the savings to get the Favero Assioma duo power meters instead as well. For the handlebar I'm waiting to see what comes out with the lead sl8 that some of the pro teams have been running on their SL7s.

i think for the Pro model they will put the ultregra that came out with the expert last year aswell as the new force.

Making bikes outrageously expensive isn’t going to grow the sport lol, these companies are delusional

SRAM Red has been seen over the winter on tons of bikes like lars van der hars, not sure you can call it a prediction😅.

I just purchased this bike today the 105 di2 in the dove white color loving the bike so far

The reason people use the SL7 as a comparison is because it's not an aero frame, so the numbers look better. It's essentially a benchmark of a basic road bike with no aero design.

Im so happy with my 4500 euro canyon aeroad. Sramrival with powermeter, high carbon wheels aero seatpost more aeroframe aero cockpit. Just shows how ridicilous specialized is

You can find sworks sl7 with red groupset for 8k in great condition. Primarily due too many people making a prediction about sl8 on YouTube and telling people don’t buy an sl7…. There is a youtube advising people to wait for sl8.

I absolutely love the white (light blue?) color of the new rival expert, but I'd never buy it over getting the 105 comp and buying my own 50mm wheels.

Think I'd be more inclined to buy the Comp and get a pair of Winspace Hypers and GP5000s. Only thing the Rovals have going for them is the warranty.

Comp should have Carbon wheels for that price.

Anyone else can’t get over 5500 for a bike with 105? And I like 105!!

New Supersix evo is smashing these bikes to pieces both on price and spec! Specialized are relying on the attorney and dentist crowd to buy there bikes.
