Cool! I did something similar. I used a depth image in Blender then used a few different built in tools to smooth the image. I'd recommend using things/objects centered and then applying a smooth pattern over it, to increase realism and shinyness.

Note: I did this for a large number of images for the plan to create a museum in VR with OBJ 3D converted from images. I used OWL3D to create high-quality depth images.
