Intro from the 46 minute documentary, The Last Place on Earth, the personal story of a voyage across tumultuous seas, to leave a message to future generations on the summit of the most remote island on the planet: BOUVETØYA.

They have climbed the highest mountain on every continent and walked across deserts of snow to the North and South Poles. Now, father and son are sailing across some of the toughest oceans to the most remote, unexplored place on Earth -- Bouvet Island. Jason Rodi, a filmmaker, joins his father Bruno, a globetrotting explorer, on a remarkable adventure to a volcanic land mass located in the heart of the Antarctic ocean. On Bouvet Island, Jason and Bruno will trek to the summit and plant a time capsule, a titanium tube filled with messages from around the world. The content of the time capsule, like the challenges facing them on their journey, make THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH -- a dramatic quest, a stunning documentary that combines wildlife, human adventure and a distinct global message.

Their journey begins on the ''Hanse Explorer'', a great exploration yacht of over 150 feet. On board, the Rodis are joined by an international crew of scientists, artists, historians and fellow explorers. In fact, the ship's captain is German, his two nautical assistants are Argentinian and Dutch, and Robert Headland, a polar historian, is British. They are joined by several other Canadians, Americans and South Africans. All of them are headed to Bouvet Island for the first time and all are anticipating the great challenges and risks that lie ahead. Departing from Cape Horn, the Southernmost tip of the Americas, known as the end of the world, their 6 week voyage is immediately marked by powerful encounters with marine wildlife, including sharks, whales, seals and penguins. As the Hanse Explorer navigates its way by icebergs, through storms and across apocalyptic landscapes on antarctic islands, the film's main characters reveal their personal story-lines and visions for the planet and its future.

As they approach their ultimate destination, Bouvet Island -- tension mounts as the crew prepares logistically and technically for the very tough obstacles ahead. The mysterious Bouvetøya, as it is called in Norwegian, is an extinct volcano surrounded by a constant mist, some 2500 nautical miles from the closest land mass. Having had less visitors than the moon, and it's summit still a virgin peak, Bouvet Island is not only a formidable challenge but a symbolic destination. Getting there and locating the Island will be an intense, unforgiving endeavor. Figuring out how to actually reach shore and safely establish themselves on land, will be their next obstacle. Ultimately, climbing it's ice walls up to the summit and planting the time capsule, is their climactic feat.

The dramatic story of THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH continues however, once the time capsule has been planted at the summit of Bouvet Island. In fact, their return is still only half the journey. Hit by lightning only two days after their departure from Bouvet, the Hanse Explorer looses it's satellite connection rendering internet and phone communications impossible. This freak lightning storm is dramatized further when one of the ship's passengers, Cindy, is actually struck by lightning. Having had a traumatic experience and temporarily losing her memory, she finally awakens and sees the world in a new light, as if she was looking at life on Earth for the first time. Combining her new world view with other time capsule messages from around the world and then meshed with stunning visuals and music, the film's journey continues on an initiatory, emblematic path.

Although lacking in fuel and resources and after 35 days on turbulent waters, the Hanse Explorer makes its way across a fifth ocean to finally land at the southernmost tip of Africa and the cradle of human civilization. In the year 2012, prophesied as the closing of a great cycle and the start of a new one, this unique journey from of the end of the world to the beginning of civilization, offers audiences a cathartic experience.

Scientific and poetic, nautical and political, THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH is truly an odyssey, a brilliantly shot documentary uniting habitat, wildlife and adventurers on an historical journey not to be forgotten.
