Restore and Soften Rubber Parts with Simple Green

In this video, we restore a set of window motor wiring boots for my 81 Camaro " Project FastTimes"

This video is not sponsored. I'm just a fan of Simple Green and use it alot around the house and shop.

Disclaimer: Always do your own testing, your parts may react differently or require shorter or longer soak times. I used 48 hours for mine and it worked. I had planned on 24 hours, but wasn't able to get back to check it. Also Simple Green can be diluted, I did use full strength on my parts.

That voice just fills me with confidence. No science necessary. Every bit of advice from such a soothing toned voice must be right. Lets do it!!

Thanks for all of the information you’ve provided during your build. I added Nu-relics power windows to my 79 and couldn’t find reproduction boots. After watching this video I found a used set and they are currently soaking in simple green. Also your door video was of great help as I also did a hinge change because my driver door hinge bushing was gone and the hole was wallowed out. Very informative and helpful!!

we used to put simple green on our rubber break pads on our BMX bikes.. it was like magic back in the 80s.. instant rubber tack! I forgot about that until this video. I"m going to try it for a few things. Simple green is a good method especially because it's pretty cheap and easy to find. I don't like the smell.. the guy who used to market it back in the day used to drink it to say how 'safe' it is..but it's not really safe..at least not to drink.

Thanks for this video. I've got some old motorcycle boots I want to soften and was going to go the wintergreen route, but I like the idea of Simple Green a whole lot better.

They look as good as new Russ. Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have thought to use simple green for that.

These almost certainly had a little protection when they left the factory, it'd be good to spray some 303, VLR/VRP, or even just interior detailer and give them a final wipedown. It'll help keep new dirt and dryness away. Retreat every year or two. Do the insides, too!

Wow! This is an awesome job. I have an 87-93 mustang with a rubber air intake tube I think I'm gonna give it a shot it has 30 years of paint and dirt on it

We used simple green on the submarine all the time. That and those green scuff pads (greenies) and we could clean anything and everything!
