One of the first rules you learn as a woodworker is never to pull your saw back or your timber back in the direction the blade is spinning. It’s a great way to lose a finger.

It is definitely awesome that you're sharing these for others to learn from. But you did make the same mistake twice and it's a very fundamental one. Material is only fed into a saw in one direction. Never pull it back. It really doesn't matter the type of saw.

This is why you're supposed to always run your boards one direction through the table saw and make sure it's passed the blade before releasing... You're never supposed to pull the board you're cutting back towards yourself 🤦🏻‍♂️

This happened to me on a planer. I was new to woodworking and I made this badass cutting board out of all my scraps. It was so colorful. I put it in the planer and it shot out at my hand and hit me in the chest. Thankfully I moved my hand up. (Maybe an angel raised my hand idk) but I found out you cant really take end grain pieces in a planer like how I did. There are ways to get around it though.

Some of these cuts should have just been made on a miter saq

Hey dude check to make sure your blade is square with the table too, mine was out by almost 0.5° and when I adjusted it to a perfect 90° it cut so much better, it hardly ever throws an off cut back now

But the main thing like others are saying is don’t risk dragging the work back thru after you make your cut, not a matter of if it’s going to kickback more so than when it’s going to

The important of not stoping half way through a cut and if you’re renting you should have a thick piece of plywood that’s also spaced out away from the wall in that area for kickback projectiles

I don’t know, maybe try paper craft or cycling.

At first glance, I noticed the saw blade was raised too high

Good video. Let more people know how to avoid hurts.

This small reel probably does a much better job of showing the dangers of small lapses in concentration than full length videos.

Stay safe and well done for putting this out, a lot of creators would probably edit out these!

any chance it's the saw itself? On that last clip, I saw the blade insert cover bounce up, I've never seen that happen before on a saw

Clear that piece from the blade by a good distance when pushing thru.. Jeeez 😮

I have the same table saw, there is an Etsy store that makes zero clearance throat plates for like 20 bucks a piece, a lot of that will be stopped with a zero clearance plate and a cross cut jig.

I’ve done that 90 degree pullback no problem and I’ve never had the fly back one yet after 10 years using them. Had kickback on skill saw and circular saw as a noob tho no injuries yet.

I think it would be cool if someone made a foot switch like a sewing machine for table saws, then all you'd have to do it let your foot up and it shuts off

Man, you have no idea how grateful I am to you for this video, the rest post such smooth videos that my friends come to me and ask for tools, they think it's easy.
