When you get discouraged about AI art, just remember that it has no personality or originality. It’s a formula and an algorithm. Art is about ideas, not just execution. It’s about stories, not just technical skill. Think about why you create and what stories you want to tell and lean into that exploration of your passion for creating.

OMG! I literally was JUST accused of using AI in drawing a mermaid in procreate. I spent hours on it and tried to capture the likeness of a client's friend. At first, I was flattered, as some of the AI art really looks beautiful, but then I posted the replay and they still thought it was weird without apology. I posted it on Imgr and it was immediately voted down and went into the negatives. It's sitting at a -7!

I'm going to continue doing art no matter where AI goes. For me art really helped my depression and its really one of the few things I'm good at. I just can't not draw. It's an integral part of my identity.

I can't say whether this means there will be fewer art jobs in the future. But with the push to automate everything, I don't see how it is possible to support a society if literally no one is working and the tax base isn't there to support the proposed UBI that's supposed to be the solution to all this.

Also, maybe it's about time us artists unionize? It's long overdue. We need power. Look at stable diffusion, scared to even touch copyrighted music.

I will humbly offer my pencil and my drawing easel as a shield. I am but a potato farmer from the southern territories, though what I lack in wealth I make up for in my will to fight and my allegiance to human creativity.

We are the storytellers, not machines. The best thing we can do to compete with AI art is think of new worlds, new stories and new journeys. AI art has exploited the weaknesses of an industry but not the artists. Trends will come and go. We can break trends. AI cannot.

I think it's awesome artists are fighting back. Visual artists should be respected on the same level as music artists; despite the wide gap in public popularity, copyright law is the same. I imagine the concept art field will allow AI in the future, but a true artist will always make up something new. It'll be hard for me to respect an artist who uses a machine to handle all the inputs. I will support game and movie makers who do not exploit artists through AI.

I agree with all you say here but one problem left is companies just taking whatever images they want and making money out it, it sets a precedent for the future, it gives the message that artists are submissive and are not willing to fight for their property but instead just find a way around it, I wish there was a way to fight these companies and not only AI itself.

This topic made me really sad. I felt tremendous sadness in my chest but I can't explain it in words. So people don't really understand why I am feeling this way.

I used to think having a defined "style" wasn't necessary for illustration. That an illustrator could adapt their style to meet client needs and be just fine. With AI-generated art on the rise, a defined style appears to be crucial if you want to make this a career choice. People need to see "you" in the art and you need to be making art that ONLY you can create, if that makes sense.

i am depressed and i have lost faith in humanity. i am just 15, but for like 8 years my biggest dream was to one day become a comics artist and i have been consistently practicing and learning for that dream. for the last couple weeks i can`t even force my self to lift the pencil, because it awakes existential dread in me, how years and years of practice my are now technically worthless, it takes me hours to create a piece and my works are inferior to ones a mindless robot makes in seconds. and i don`t belive any of the stuff you said can save us. unless we(humanity) voluntarily give up making AI art, which is extremely unlikely, i think creativity will be no more. and it`s not kust imagery, AIs will be making all kinds of art soon... i don`t even know what to do anymore, the only thing i have evr enjoyed doing is now lost.. or at leastt will soon be

So, I'm a writer, not an artist, but like a lot of you, AI is coming for my job. My position is, if I'm going out, I'd like to go out making awesome things with people I like and value human creativity. That means you lot. :) I intend to take Jake's advice seriously over the coming months and try to get better at connecting online. Hopefully we can all help each other.

I've been reading articles, stories, and youtube videos of A.I art and it's been extremely depressing especially with option 1, these popular artists are trying to make light of the situation with the solution "Just use it as a base and fix the rest" which btw, no because I'm going through college to create, not to fix. And these "A.I artists" have the attitude of "Well you're just salty cause it's progress" no, I'm just sad cause I'm a digital artist that wants to do illustration, freelancing, and concept art and you're taking away my chances for a future with a few clicks on a mouse

Ever since this topic blew up earlier this year, AI art has been lowkey on my mind constantly, worrying the heck out of me, subconsciously influencing every project, every post, every step I take in my creative career. You have no idea how much I needed to hear all this - Beautifully articulated thoughts, as always. Really enjoy every video you make, even if you only upload like twice a year, no worries, we will wait! Thanks, Jake 😊

As a developer, every other developer is saying they can replace the artist,
but I know well it couldn't happen because the AI they use is pretty shitty.
(I made an AI generate music back then, so I know how they work very well.)
So they can never make a new art style; they will always end up mimicking the same style.
And I know art is not simple as that.

But I'm glad artists are getting attention and fighting back.
People always treated artists really shitty.
At least music has basic laws and systems to protect them, and people always focus on musicians more than paint artists.
They don't notice that they live a good life because of all these artists.
Even without AI art, paint art always had many problems, and no system or law could protect them.

I hope artists fight together against AI and the world tries to ignore and abuse them.
And take back the rights they deserve with all those beautiful art crafts they made.
You will never get replaced now or these days, so work hard with your beautiful art.

It’s funny because for decades now I’ve been averse to signing my artwork. I always felt it was egotistical, or something. Now I feel like wow, not only do I want to sign my printed art, but maybe add little flourishes to whatever I sign.

I'm glad that Inktober was created by this nice person because I like taking part in it. I couldn't follow otherwise. He brings us together once a year and always has a few inspirational words like these. Thank you Jake !

great vid!

i think a couple things, if you want to draw for other people (companies) you'll have huge competition with each passing month and will eventually be replaced by one art director and a handfull of production people that create AI art for companies, and can do corrections. spot illustration, and design stuff first, then eventually comics etc (if there's an audience to sustain marvel DC in the future.

best things we can do as artists that can't be replaced is creator owned material. something an audience can only get from you.

also, create stories with a personality. personality can't be replicated and is something fans gravitate towards and come back to over only eye candy. storytelling with distinct personality... mike mignola, doug tennapel, sergio aragones etc.

build an audience for you, your style, your personality, a brand, get on a bunch of platforms because each will crumble.

two things that will help keep AI in check, prevent servers from uploading copywritten art (like youtube wont accept vids with music in the background)
and make human created art something special to support, like farmers markets and small book stores. if you give an audience something they can only get from your 'table' you can eventually make a living because we have less overhead and middle men than big companies.
❤🤟

When i saw the CEO's response in the article, i was furious. But i guess the general public won't give a damn as long as they get their "progress", and instant gratification machines.
