15 years ago, I rescued a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix. He was a little sack of bones, with all his ribs, hip bones, shoulder blades showing. His name was Peanut. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge around Memorial Day. He was about 5 weeks shy of his 17th birthday. He was a great companion for my elderly husband until he passed in 2020. And the next 4 years, he was my buddy even though he missed his "daddy" a lot.

If you have a chance to name a little dog Peanut, it is a great name for a special little guy.

I think he is absolutely missed by someone...the little paw lift is a habit from being scooped up and carried and he melts right into the carry position. He was/is someone's world.

Chihuahuas are so loving and loyal to their person but they will bite if they are in protective mode. After my dad passed away I adopted a short hair for my mom we named Elvis. He was always by her side and loved her unconditionally until he passed away. Mom developed dementia then alzheimer's but she still missed him. A caregiver purchased a stuffed dog for her that she would cuddle with and scold for being away for so long. Pure love.❤️

Where I used to live a stray Chi showed up. It took me weeks to catch it, as it was so scared. No collar, no chip, not claimed. I got her cleaned up, healthy and happy and she was adopted out and has been living a good life ever since.
There was another little stray Chi I rescued off a busy street where he was in danger of being run over while trying to eat some food trash. He was very fearful and trying to threaten and bite me, til I had him in my car, and then he melted and just wanted to be cuddled. He also got cleaned up, fostered and adopted.

I'm in agreement that the foot lift is him wanting/expecting to be scooped up. What he's saying is so clear if you recognize that: "Pick me up and take me out of here!" Which is there's all that up and down. Because you're scooping him (right) but not taking him out (wrong). This perplexes him and so he goes back down, waits and tries again. He wants out of this place, and he's been trained that being scooped up = going out. Such a good smart dog!

I adopted a chihuahua. You are very brave to get in with him because chihuahuas are so small they get right into your heart and never come out. I love my chihuahua. And he came from a shelter. He’s so loyal to my family.
