World of Tanks: What is a tank? History of tanks

What is a tank? It might seem like a very simple question. But it’s not an easy one to answer. To realize how big the problem is, take a look at an encyclopedia. It will say something like “a tank is an armored fighting vehicle, typically tracked, and carrying a cannon as main armament.” This description is very loose. Since there’s no ready answer, we’ll have to find it for ourselves. Let’s see what tanks were designed to do in the past, and how their role has evolved since.

It is good that a tank is made because if there is no tank there is no world of tanks

It would be so amazing if WG, or other gaming company, would create a game where you get to drive ALL tanks. From WW1 to present day. Imagine starting at tier 1 with a Mark 1 and finishing at tier 20/30/whatever with a Challenger 2.

To expand a bit: Panzer IV Lang was the so-called " F2". In actuality, these came about as they were finishing the F serie run of production. Krupp upgraded the last F serie examples to the "G" ausf. Pz IV ausf D was not the uparmored, upgunned, version that saw wisdespread service, though a D might've been the trials vehicle for the project.
