Living in a three-dimensional environment, we’re all very good at visualizing two- and three-dimensional objects. But how can we understand four-dimensional objects? Join mathematician Henry Segerman as he casts light on the fourth dimension, using 3D-printed shadows to squish four-dimensional shapes into our three-dimensional world. Along the way, explore fantastical sculptures, intriguing puzzles, and virtual reality experiences that come from thinking about these extra-dimensional shadows.

Special introduction by Patrick Honner, recipient of the 2013 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Math Encounters is a public presentation series celebrating the spectacular world of mathematics and presented by the Simons Foundation and the National Museum of Mathematics.
