as a Vietnamese born in this city, I can tell you this is the most safe and quiet street in my city. So that you can practice the street crossing without any risks, haha.

I remember there the my 1st time is in front of my hotel I was shocked there is completely no brakes i see Vn woman just walk across it and them bikes are avoid her like water and oil im pretty much CANT to that so I try and stay in sidewalk for some minutes and then Mr. Taxi who parked there can't stand a sight of me struggling so he took my hands and just walk in through the road like hot knife to butter I made it home alive! beautiful country and extremely cheap for everything I would comeback someday for sure.

It is very easy. There is no rule, just common sense. Like you drive across the intersection without traffic light. Slowly walk and observe. If you think you can occupy the space faster than incoming vehicles then step up, if not then wait. All incoming riders actually already see you and they will act by watching your action. Never walk back or run suddenly you will end up in hospital.

I've visited HCMC twice and cross the roads with confidence - in the fact that keeping a steady pace ensures the traffic to gently swerve in order not to hit you

This is the worst way to cross a street in Vietnam. Simply put, the safest is the start walking and keep a constant speed through the cross walk. All the drivers are adjusting their positions and speed based on your movement. If you stop, you have a much much higher risk of being hit.

thats crazy, in malaysia u just need to put your hand out and then the drivers will just slow down/stop to let u cross the road.
