Great video. I've been painting for years but I am picking up little tips from you that I've never heard before, such as dipping the brush in gamsol before painting, and the mixture of gamsol/poppy-linseed oil on the canvas before painting. You are a gifted teacher. You have an easy way of explaining what is often complex and confusing to beginners, and offering tips for the more experienced as well.

I'm a new painter, so I've watched a lot of videos, and missed many more. But this is, without a doubt, one of the most valuable things I've watched. Putting paint onto the brush, and getting it off again, are never talked about. Arm motion, angle of the brush, so often ignored. Huge thanks for this clear, complete and essential lesson! Many thumbs up.

Thank you for this excellent instruction. I've taken plenty of classes and techniques are not something that are emphasized. So you wind up trying to figure things out by yourself. I really appreciate your simple straightforward explanations.

Hi, Dianne, Thanks for the rigger tip. About pre-wetting the brush with solvent: I can't
be exposed to solvents. You had once advised me that I could pre-wet the canvas with either linseed oil or walnut oil medium (and then wipe it off.) Could I use this same procedure with the paintbrush, i.e, dip it into the oil and then wipe off the excess? Thanks so much for your guidance. All the best.

Diane, every time I see your pallet, I wonder how you keep all those colors on there without them drying out. I looked to see if you had a video on this topic, but didn't see one. How does that work?? Thanks!

Hello, I've enjoyed many of your videos! Being a scholar (science) in another life, I like to learn by reading as well. I wanted to ask whether you might do a "Quick Tip Video" on books that would be relevant to viewers of your channel. Perhaps you would some that you've chosen as college textbooks in your teaching? Thank you for considering this idea!

Awesome demo. I learn so easily from your explanations and demos. Having said that I practice since my hand is untrained. Does the moist apply to acrylic paints too for easier application to the canvas? Thank you again Dianne.
