Gutter Guards Review

Two years ago i bought Easy-On Gutter Guards from Costco for $2 per foot. This is my review and opinion of how they've worked.
They have held up great. Zero damage, zero clogs, and for 90% of the gutters - they are working perfectly. The only problem are the White Pine needles. They are so small that they get stuck in the fine mesh.
Having said that - had i bought any of the cheaper gutter guards - the problem would have been much much worse. The needles are getting stuck, but they aren't getting through the mesh. They are just collecting on the top. The gutters still work and are not over flowing, but in the winter they freeze and sit on the gutter.
I could probably just leave them, but once per year i still get up there and brush off the needles. It's possible that in that area, guards that use surface tension may have worked better, but who knows.
So overall i am happy with the Easy On gutter guards, glad i didn't go cheap, but if you have small needles, you may want to look into buying something else.

Nice. And you can make life easy for yourself by getting plastic pipes and a J-hook end you can fit together to reach the gutter from the ground, then use a blower to blow away the needles come winter time before snow and ice has a chance to form on them. Professional gutter cleaners often use them to work faster and safer, might be a good investment for you. Good stuff, I like those mesh guards.

I would call that a win even with that one area loading up with pine tags. I live in the woods with oak, pine and poplar trees all around. I'm currently installing this exact guard and am enthusiastic about them to help keep me from climbing the ladder 2-3 times each fall.

I don't even live in the US, but great vid. I get problems with moss growth on my roof and getting lodged in my gutters.

Could you not cut back some of the branches that over hang your house to stop the pine needles dropping on top of the gutter guard?

Everyone take heed, just have someone clean your gutters once or twice a year or buy them yourself and install or have some you can trust but never ever ever go with the big name company that sends you stuff in the mail and has the commercials on tv. You will be scammed on the price and lied to repeatedly about product. Unfortunately i know first hand.

A lot of people recommend against gutter guards but I think it is important to have them. If you don’t have them, these leaves will eventually find their way to the downspouts and can clog them there. So it is always best to collect them on the guard and clean them once a year.

Trim pines back. Pines near the house are a problem waiting to happen. Screws with the lawn, too.

Perhaps make a leaf blower extension from pvc pipi and blow off from the ground???

Very few things in life are maintenance free. I installed the same guards (different name, from Home Depot). They work great, but need to be brushed off (lower roofs) and blown off (upper roof) every so often. It's a lot better than cleaning the gutters 4 to 6 times a year like I used to do before the gutter guards. (I would use my leaf blower to do that.)
I'm very happy with the product and didn't get screwed by any of the major installers. Can you say 10 to 12K, boys and girls?

I don't know of any gutter guard that prevents pine needles form either getting stuck in the guard screen or washing into the gutters with small outer edge gaps. I have the micromesh style and white pine needles stick into the tiny screen holes and then create a dam for more needles to collect. It looks bad from the ground.

That gutter guards we installed don’t have the dip your cheap cost co gutter guards. It’s that dip that collecting that needles. I wouldn’t go with those helmet ones at all you’ll surely regret it because when it rains hard that water can’t make that turn around. My advice is get leaf blaster pros and your problems will be solved

Thank you for your honest review. I am curious, have you tried something New and are you happy with the product. We just bought a home in rural/mountain area in Caliornia. The property has many trees, but no pine trees close to the home. I am currently researching what my options are. Today's date is 05-19-24 but Winter will be here soon. I want to cry once, buy once if humanly possible. MountainAngel

no matter what pine tree is always a hazard... no just sitting on your gutter but pine needles can ruin your garden too

I roofed for 38 yrs. Never seen a gutter guard that didn't clog up. Your problem is causing the water to dam up above eaves. Shingles need a positive water flow. The decking and subfacia going to rot out.

Maybe get a long pole with a brush on the end. 🤷‍♂️

The way to fix it is to cut the pine trees down. Problem solved. Pines next to a house always suck.

There is no escape from climbing a ladder at least once a year.

If the gutter was at the same slope as the house, the needles would not gather in the dip. Your video shows needles in the dip.
