A friendship that became a rivalry. A rivalry that became a war. Watch Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie in the new trailer for #MaryQueenofScots.

"Mary Queen of Scots" explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

Mary Queen of Scots should have a French accent. She grew up in the French court

I am so tired of Saorise Ronan getting robbed at the Oscars. That’s right lady chase after it until you get it.

..how exactly did Mary Stuart acquire a Scottish accent by growing up in the French court?

I love Margot Robbie. But I've seen Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth I as well. Margot has no aura as The Virgin Queen.

When did they give the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland her own spinoff movie?

Queen Elizabeth I wasn’t bald, that is a long standing myth that has been debunked by various historians.Anyway, this movie seems to use various stereotypes of the two Queens. How ironic since this movie is using the message “it was men that made them enemies”.

Well it's worth watching for Saiorse Ronan and Jack Lowden

Looks like a historical disaster. They never met. Mery had no interest in the English crown. She was struggling to preserve the Scottish crown and had asked Elizabeth for help.

No surprise that Saiorse is playing time piece. She really has the classic look.

The way movies/tv shows depict the relationship between these two historical figures exhausts me. Every few years it's like the public is forced sympathize with one over the other. Some years Mary is the passionate, independent spirit who became an unfortunate victim and Elizabeth is the awful schemer who mercilessly ordered Mary's head to be chopped off. Other years Mary is the naive, politically inexperienced and impulsive fool who is solely to blame for her own doom and Elizabeth as the wise, cautious and more realistic queen, has no option but to contrive a reason for Mary's execution in order to secure her own rule. I guess this new movie is going to be more sympathetic towards Mary so it's back to thinking Elizabeth was unduly harsh and ruthless. Whatever. Ultimately it's James I who benefits - even this famous rivalry between two powerful women still ends with a man controlling both countries. Go figure.
