Those Japanese tourists in Paris must be losing their minds right about now. Seriously, in Japan, they have a bizarre and unrequited love for French things, and when Paris doesn't turn out to meet their expectations, they go crazy.

Look into this. The govt has enacted an article in their constitution that allows laws to be passed without a vote. It's not just about retirement age.
I don't blame them for being upset.

There's a lot going on in France that you're not being told.

The garbage collectors in Paris must strike fairly often because my friend told me they were on strike when he went a few years ago. Said there was trash everywhere. He actually hated Paris but liked other parts of France, which is a sentiment I've heard from other people.

the only difference I would say is that L.A garbages are not due to ephemere strikes, they are permanent. While garbages in Paris are (often) not concerned by garbage strikes.

To add some additional context to the story, it is a way more complicated than just having to retire at 64. You have to consider the whole picture and not judge without knowing. The addition reasons are:
- Yes people disagree, in France, if people take away one of your right, you protest.
- They do it to decrease the debt and guarantee social welfare but they are other alternatives that would target more the wealthy but remained untouched, hence this feeling of unfairness.
- The law is passed through a method that bypass any type of democratic process against the legislative power, therefore higlighting the feeling of letdown of the people.

That are some of the reasons why France protests AND that may be why we have managed to preserved some rights like a low retirement age.

You're missing the point about France. They stand up & unite faster than anyone. They make lots of changes by refusing to comply with things.

Here we go with Americans being experts on French politics. This issue is alot more nuanced than it looks. France has a long history of rebelling against its own government. It's not just about the retirement age. It's the method in which the decree was passed.

When the government screws up, the French are quick to attack their government... unlike the US, where if the government screws up, we spend our time attacking each other.

Please in the comments don't confuse the word "France" with "Paris". What happened in Paris happened in Paris.

People are fleeing France like crazy. I know this because Air France's phone number is one digit off from my work phone number.

It's everyone... 3.5 million people in Paris protesting along nevermind the rest of the country. The French do it right. Its all over the incresses to retirement age and the other stuff that go along with it, not wanted or liked by the people, didnt get backing by elected officals so the government just said we are doing it and forced it though. Been going on for weeks.

Looks like Idiocracy, i cant believe that film was the one that got it right.
I'd have rather the future was full of Arnold Schwarzenegger droids or aliens taking over my face.

You don't understand the political situation here in Paris, we are protesting against the government for various reasons, the people in the streets protesting for 11 days now. The trash men are on strike to protest. Parisian people are used to fight for their rights, that's why we have free health care system, 39 hours of work per week, and real social help for the people in need. And we retire from work at 62. Well I love your videos and I follow you on YouTube, but Paris is a great city, we are just in a protest situation right now.

Meanwhile, the French Secretary of State for the Social and Solidarity Economy, Marlène Schiappa, will appear in the French edition of Playboy magazine...

You'd think that photo illustrates the general state of Paris as of today. It does not. That image has been cherry picked everywhere because it shows the worst of the whole situation at a single point in time, those bin bags where all put there to block the street during a protest. They weren't all there. Overall, at the height of the protests, there were indeed bags pilling up but nowhere near as many as anyone would be led to believe.
