these guys don't realize it but this is a truth in Christianity. the Christian worships the Lord and in the process receives joy in the doing so. so joy is a byproduct of worshipping and serving God and not the motivation.

a lot of people are missing the point here lol. happiness is really a short term feeling, it's just a burst of dopamine that you'll need to keep refilling time and time again. it would be so much more meaningful to seek fulfillment rather than happiness, and i think that's what these two are trying to get at

I think Jordan Peterson said something to the effect of “Achieving a goal isn’t what fulfills us, it’s the PURSUIT of that goal that fulfills us”

Dudes the absolute secret to happiness... is low expectations. Nothing will disapoint you, and anything postive will thrill you.

Life, liberty, and FREEDOM. They really screwed up with the happiness part imo.

At the heart of modern mans discontent are likely to be moments of blank misgivings in which he finds out that the civilization of which he is part of leaves a dusty taste in his mouth. He may be busy with many things, but he discovers one day that he is no longer sure they are worth doing. He has been much preoccupied; but he is no longer sure why. He has become involved in a elaborate schemed pleasures; and they do not seem to amuse him very much. He finds it hard to believe that doing any one thing is better than doing any other thing, or, in fact, that it is better than doing nothing at all. It occurs to him that it is a great deal of trouble to live, and that in even in the best of lives the thrills are few and far between. He begins more or less consciously to seek satisfaction, because he is no longer satisfied, and all the while he realizes that the pursuit of happiness was always a most unhappy quest.

My observation, for what it is worth, is that every relationship hits a major defining traumatic moment at some point. If it survives that major defining traumatic moment - a loss of health, of wealth, of life, of hope, etc. and remains intact, then that relationship will endure over the long haul. If in the face of adversity it fails to pass through that shadowed valley, then it will not be alive on the other side.

Happiness is great goal to WORK for. The problem is, like it was said, happiness is not tangible. Doing one thing will exhaust your happiness and that you must shift/change yourself and what you doing to keep yourself happy. You have to understand what makes you personally happy at certain point in your life, and that you need to keep constantly search and WORK for it.

Strive for happiness with the knowledge that you are not always going to get it.

Peterson said the same thing. It's a symptom and shouldn't be a goal :D

This couldn't be more wrong. Not only is it a good goal, it's the only possible goal a human can attempt to attain. All human acts are an extension of this.

Worse still are people who make harmlessness their goal. I can't stand to hear, "It's not hurting anyone" as a defense foe immoral action.

Happiness is not achievable because the whole world is Negative. Because even if you're the most happiest person in the world, you'll STILL cry someday.

~"If happiness would be that desireable, than the same would make everyone happy" what a bad argument

Misery is not a very good goal either.

I don’t think everyone is saying that happiness is super easy to achieve but rather if you can achieve happiness in a way like no other, go for it. That’s why it’s a goal. Doesn’t mean to be lazy and just try and satisfy yourself in the lowest means possible but to work towards what ever you have to to keep yourself happy. Maybe he’s just looking at it from a more cliche aspect.
