Amlodipine and Leg Swelling

Leg swelling with Amlodipine is discussed.

Started this 3 weeks ago and feel great. Had mild side effects the first week and a bit of ankle swelling, especially when I would take it in the morning and have my work days. I switched taking it at night before bed and stopped getting the swollen ankles/feet. So far it’s been great, I know it’s a hit or miss type of medication for many.

Amlodipine is notorious for increasing capillary leak in ankles and low extremity. I had 4+ pitting edema in my lower ankles and leg. Switching immediately both the doctor who did not recognize a common complication and the medication cleared the ankle edema promptly.

My question is: how much swelling of the legs/feet is TOO much swelling? At what point do I ask my doctor to change my medication? I was hoping for more information about this.

Too many side effects. I took it for 2 years. Crazy things happened. Dizziness, leg swelling, and more. Dr took me off it 6 mos ago. Feel much better.

Wife took this and swelling began within a few days. She was then diagnosed with Lupus, which we figure it was triggered by the medication.

Was placed on Amlodipin while in Cardiac Critical Care IMU for 7 days. Renal Doctor would check on me daily and always looked at my ankles and voiced no swelling. No information on why she made that comment and nothing from the hospital. 2 weeks after discharge I could barely bend the knee and foot on my left side there was so much swelling. I was placed on Furosemide by a country PA I started seeing and it pulled exactly 29 pounds of fluid. My heart could barely beat. After 2 months of no swelling I moved to another area and three days after arriving here comes the swelling again. I'm sick of it and absolutely refuse to deal with this daily for the rest of my life. I'm using supplements from Life Extensions to naturally assist in lowering my BP.

My dad takes amlodipine but because he walks 2-3 miles everyday it’s fine. However once he developed shin splints he now can’t walk daily and therefore within a few days has now developed the foot swelling. He now has reduced his dose a little and hopefully his swelling reduces.

I have been taking a amlodipine 10mg for 10 years now along with irbesartan 150mg and Losartan 100mg and atenolol/chlorthalidone 50mg, Spironolactone 25mg, Pravastatin Sodium 40mg, my blood pressure is high level normally 140-170 I have to make I take my meds every day or evening I can see when I take my meds every my blood pressure is lower at 145-165, when I don't take my meds every day my blood pressure can go from 145-265 very quickly, I tried to take my blood pressure medicines before I go to sleep normally at night then when I wake up the next morning it's already in my body and as soon as my blood pressure levels are lower did when I take my blood pressure pills when I'm awoke but I tried to be flexible,

My ankles swell very badly and I take 5 mg daily. Been on this for 3 years . Sometimes I feel faint. And have fainted off a couple of times. I take it with Concor 2.5 daily. Should I change the dose or drug. Thanks for the info. Very useful God Bless.

Been taking amlodipine for years and it works extremely well for me unfortunately joint swelling occurs in ankles and wrists making this drug worthless to me.

On 5 mg daily. Endema in right leg and foot. Horrible knee pain. Spells of dizziness. Doctors won't listen and won't take me off. Have come to conclusion doctors are biggest drug pushers for pharmaceutical companies.
