The Ultimate Quadlock Review for the iPhone 12 (NOT SPONSORED)

We’ve been seeing a ton of Quadlock ads lately. So we figure we give our expert, unbiased, unsponsored opinion on the Quadlock case. Here’s the 40,000 ft summary:

The Quadlock Mounting system is still one of the best for mobile devices. BUT the mounting system is borderline useless for anybody who isn’t mounting their device on a moving object.

We know. This runs contrary to all the ads that you see showing you the Quadlock in various office/desk like settings. But that’s the truth!

Still need to buy a Quadlock case? Use our Amazon links:

In this video:

0:00 Intro
1:03 Design
2:14 Protection
4:09 Functionality (Mounts, Finger Loop)
8:48 Why You Shouldn't Get The Quadlock

When it comes design, other than the locking mechanism on the back, the Quadlock is a ho hum case. It’s not going to offer as much protection as other products from Mous, Casetify or Phone Rebel. We’ll elaborate on that in few minutes.

With that being said, the aggressive overhang on the case will stop an iPhone from popping out during a face first drop BUT you’re stuck with with using only case friendly screen protectors.

The front of the case doesn’t slide around easily though the back with the raised hump for the lock will turn your iPhone into a top.

The case is has a decent finish on it. It has gotten better over time as the previous generations of Quadlock cases felt either too slick or they showed scuffing really easily. The back of the case looks like it gets scratched easily but it goes away after a while. Either the case has a self-healing feature or the matte finish is just good at hiding scratches. Regardless, this is one of the better scratch resistant products we’ve used for the iPhone 12.

The Quadlock is a double layered TPU & PC case. Compared to other double layered cases the Quadlock doesn’t really stand out when it comes to protection, like the Otterbox or Uolo guardian it has no protective features other than the case wrapping around the front edge of your phone which will prevent the corners from popping off in the event of a face first drop.

This case is ALWAYS, slipping out of my hand. And thats not just because I’m clumsy. The matte finish on this case is slippery. Even with that loop sticking out of the back I’ve managed to drop my phone in this case way too many times. If you’re looking for something that will NEVER fall out of your hand go with the loopy, that one also won’t cut your finger off if you ever need to change the position of your hand while your finger is in the loop.

As a case, the sleep/power button is fairly easy to use but the volume buttons are a little tough. Overall, they feel a bit squishy and take away from the button feel.

The edge height is consistent throughout the entire case so you’ll still feel it when gesturing on your iPhone. I had no issues with iPhone access or camera access with the Quadlock case.

In general, if you need to mount your iPhone on a moving platform, get the Quadlock. The motorcycle mounts have neat features like vibration dampening for image stabilization and all the moving based mounts like bike, moto and running have an extra locking mechanism to ensure that when you’re scooting about it doesn’t come off.

For the desk and car life, all you have to do is twist the case off the mount to remove it. BUT if you’re an office jockey, having that extra strong connection between the case and your table mount is just overkill. And it’s not a nice overkill, it’s an annoying overkill.

Even in the car, the locking mechanism is annoying to use when compared to all the other case Qi-mounted chargers. I’ve used dozens of different magnet mounted car mounts over the last few years and have never had them come off driving in the city. If you’re wondering how fast the Qi-charger is from Quadlock, check out the car mount video as we compare it against 10 other brands.

Honestly, out of all the products that we have that are mountable, the Quadlock is BY far the most annoying to use. For the average person.

I do like your reviews very informative but it’s hard taking anyone seriously while they are wearing mirrored sunglasses indoors!

I've been a quad lock user for somewhere around 10 years. Every time I get a new phone I get a quad lock case. The price of the accessories isn't bad when you consider that my windshield mount is about 6 years old and used almost every single day. Each of my bicycles has a mount on it also. So far not one problem or broken phone. I'm sure there are better cases, but not if you're a cyclist and like don't like keeping your phone in your pocket.

I have been using quad lock on the last 3 phones and dropped it onto the concrete more than once and the case saved my investment of my phone. Works great on my bike too.

I've been using QuadLock for years on all my motorcycles & scooters. They are flawless. They are secure. Their customer service is spot on. I've have had ZERO problems. I do not have all the little extra gadgets...I don't need them. If I am going to spend a grand on a phone, I don't mind spending a little to mount it and protect it. And BTW, their poncho cover works perfect when getting caught in an unexpected downpour. I guess it all depends on what your needs and expectations are.

I enjoyed this! I had no idea people were buying quadlock cases while not planning on using it heavily with bikes. That makes little sense. as you mentioned it’s only really amazing at that one main thing. Being easily mounted strongly. Which is where the other problems of use arise from. I still don’t know of a better, easier to use mounting system for riding. And I’ll be damned if I’m switching my phone case once I hop off my motorcycle. Sad day. ✌🏼

Personally I find quadlock the most fuss free case I’ve ever used. As a commuting cyclist, this is best and fuss free mount for an iPhone and while I agree it can be a bit steep, I like the fact that it’s secure and simple. A lot of the extra ‘accessories’ they promote are pretty over the top but not much more pointless than some of the other pointless accessories made by Apple themselves. To each one’s own I suppose, Quadlock worked for me and that’s all that counts.

Still, can’t help but feel you guys made a video just to remind us that you’re a reviewer and not an influencer (not like we needed reminding).

Don’t let this review put you off. If you want a mounting system that won’t drop your phone and a mount that stays where you set it then quad lock is for you. Yes, the company seems to have lost its way recently with all the extra and often painfully crap accessories, but the base system works really well, the case is excellent and simple unlike a lot of multi part cases costing twice as much, and the basic mounting systems provides a great solution especially when travelling over rough terrain.

I’ve been a quad lock user for several years and had cases for iPhones and Samsung galaxy without screen protectors . What got me hooked was how tough the cases are when dropped. I have the bike, arm band and car mounts and the key ring thing. Do agree that the holder thing was a gimmick

I’ve never seen Aaron rant so “passionately” about a product. Hahahaha

Greetings from Australia. Thanks for the review. Quad lock is not for every one. I have a courier business, and 2 business phones, one for the car and one for my scooter. Their mounts and cases can take abuses and holding up well against engine vibrations. So for me, quad lock range of products are the best, specially, their scooter mounts and wireless chargers. Yes they are expensive, yes they look ugly, but like I said these are not for everyone. General consumer do have better options when it comes to cases and mounts, but for us (specific users) we only have few..and I found quad lock is the best for outdoor set up or activities.

You guys compare those products based on average consumer. Would be great if you compare the product using off-road motor cycle or bike or off road 4WD. Then u would know how secure they are..!!!

Thanks

I've had no issues with the quad lock case. It's a great case and very versatile. Of course it's not an otterbox, it has its place and isn't bulky. Wearing sunglasses inside makes you cool though

I’ve been using QuadLock cases and accessories, for years.
I’ve had many drops, including from my arm band and Bike. I’ve never had any damage.
The newer maglocks are even slimmer.
The windscreen mount has been my go to for the whole time I’ve owned a case.
I’ve used various screen protectors, without issue.

I always love honest reviews like this. I agree Quadlock is horrible for most people but it is awesome for a motorcycle mount with charging. I feel it has it place in that market.

This case was a strong case for my parter who uses it for his dirt bike then to his car for 4x4 offroading use, then its worth the money.

Apple does the same thing with their accessories. It’s how companies make their money. As a consumer we have to make the best informed decision at the end of the day. I ride my motorcycle and Somedays I ride my hybrid. I can tell you from my personal experience, the quad lock beats all the rest. Nothing comes close in terms of reliability and keeping your device safe.. I believe they offer a wide range of accessories to fit all kinds of consumers. It’s up to us to make the right judgment call on which accessories we truly need. The case itself is well built, sleek, offers great protection. Do I agree with the price? No. But you have to pay to play.
