How to Create Global Roles for Permissions in Jira | Atlassian Jira

Step-by-step instruction to create global roles in #Atlassian #Jira. I am here to help make things easy for you! Global roles are great to help you abstract how you manage permissions in Jira. There are many different ways to do this, and this is the method that I typically use.

I recommend you have the following roles:

Administrator. This role is the default role, so you don't have to make any changes here, but I do recommend you add additional roles as you don't want everyone being an Administrator in your Jira projects. Administrators should be able to: Read, Write, and Delete.

Developer. This role doesn't have to mean developers only, but it basically means a user that is going to be using Jira to create, edit, and view issues. In other words, this role defines someone that can Read and Write in Jira. Notice, that unlike the Administrator role, there is no delete power intended for this role.

User. This role is designed to give folks the ability to see your Jira project/issues, but not actually create anything. This role can only Read. They can't create anything and they can't delete anything. This role is perfect for executives that want to stay up to date with project statuses, but not necessarily have the power to break/alter data in Jira.

Thanks for putting this together, very helpful. Can you also please do a video on different level of administration rights and how it works within JIRA. I am working for a startup and setting things up for my teams.

Thank you for this video. What I don't understand is how you created a project role and without associating any permission to it, you simply added it to the project. How do we know which persmissions does he have?

Thank you so much for the video. Have you done a video on global permissions? I had expected this to cover that but it doesn't

Thank you so much for your explicit content. Please guide me on how to perform these actions on Free software as "Add People" is not visible and I am getting this notification:
"On a free plan, you can only add people using your site's administration settings. Upgrade your plan to better control who can access this project."

Your video is great! I would like to know if I want to cooperate closely with a third party outside the company, for example, to develop a project together, can I open jira accounts for them and set permissions for them? If so, what should I do?

Hi Alex. Is it possible to apply field level security on the basis of different roles?
There are few fields like estimated time which I do not want to be shown to specific people. How do I achieve that. Thanks

When you add roles of developer and user their actions are also same as admin it mean developer and user can also have all admin rights? How can we remove these actions from user and developer role?
