Thank you for clearly explaining how to do this. There’s a new generation of voters who have no experience seeing this happen to our collective detriment

"Democracy is hard?"
Not when you are facing Fascists who deny election results....like Trump.
(Adding 2+2 seems to be "hard" for the average American GOP voter.)
Hi from civilised and well-educated Europe.

Hey! That's my old representative! It was a LONG time ago, but I remember visiting his office when I was in DC on a high school Close Up trip.

I believe there should be more education on what is required for to a democracy, and to understand freedom does not mean irresponsibility. Guidelines in our schools on good citizenship and how to nurture our governing process could be enhanced and made important, not just taken for granted and offered on a “by the way” process.

The country has changed and any opportunity for a deal can be killed by fools like MTG. If we make through this week without more craziness, be thankful.

Considering what/who mccarthy has in his caucus, it's no surprise he found the white house staff a pleasure to work with.

Professional respect is needed to work with people of different views but that requires professional behavior by all. When politicians become independent agents for the highest bidder without fear of public opinion you get trump 2024 supporters looking to buy America not American!

So few understand the debt and the budget. Gephardt looks great.

Anyone who oppose debt ceiling right now should not be re-elected.
We must show these congress members that there will be consequences.
People will remember them and vote them out.

I agree. Without this Constitution, we would be in a constant state of revolutions. This Constitution maybe was the first big document written after the invention of the printing press. The writers had the benefit, for the first time, of really being experts in govt theories and functions.

One of the things that so many people fail to mention about Bill Clinton was how he continued to act like a president in his public life while his political opponents were trying to remove him from the presidency (which they didn't) or at least publicly embarrass him (which they did) because of his private shenanigans. This helped him immensely in the 1996 campaign, as it was quite amazing that he didn't get wrapped up in his own personal problems, like a Donald Trump would, but continued to do the people's business, as he was elected to do.
