As a manager myself, I could never undermine my staff like that. It makes them look incompetent and encourages these customers to behave that way at other establishments.

It always annoyed me when we did our job as we were trained and according to policy, but the entitled customer complained and the manager just gave them what they wanted.

It made us as workers look like we were trying to be difficult, and in the long run, it makes the job that much harder.

I've only had one manager that held to the company policy and back me up.

The problem is, managers like this create karens like that. Our whole “customer is always right” society created the karens that begrudgingly walk the earth.

It gets worse. As a manager, I wouldn't let this happen. She could tell other people, or other people could see it and learn to do the same. Some people are just like children. Just put somewhere on your policies that the rates vary everyday and if that happens again, you can shut them up.

A few years ago i was checking into a hotel while attending a convention. A special rate had been negotiated for attendees. The lady ahead of me was also attending the convention, and was trying to use a AAA discount on top of the special rate. She went round and round with them for half an hour before they finally came up with a compromise that satisfied her. Sadly she wasnt very good at math because the "compromise" cost her more than if she just accepted the special rate

Karens are like toddlers. She’s just had her poor behavior reinforced and she will go off on the next poor service industry worker when this happens again and dig her feet in because “the last place said I was right and fixed it for me.” A new mega Karen has been born.

Could have needed a flattened out rate for cost reimbursement from an employer. My employer would reimburse up to $95 per night. If I had two nights at $90 and two night at $100, I would lose $10 from my Travel Expense Claim. But the worst thing was then I would also have to adjust all the taxes and fees and explain to Accounting how I calculated the adjustments. But when the invoice showed the room rates leveled out, I could just plug in the numbers without writing a supplemental statement to attach to my claim.

The customer could have been nicer about it, though.

Love that you made a second part!!! Was a butcher/meat cutter for almost 20 years... Damned sure dealt with more Karens and Todds than any human being should have to. Anyhow, thank you for the laughter! Needed that tonight!

If your eyes don't miss a detail, you WANT the rates to float AND to see it on the check. It gives you an idea of which days are cheaper.

I would LOVE to see a video explaining things like that in more detail. I sadly don't travel often, but when I do I love to understand what the employees deal with and how things work so I can keep things as smooth as possible for everyone.

I hate managers like this. It feeds the customers ego and makes the employee look really bad.

I advise any managers out there to never do this.
