Better cast parts than OEM?

When pushing OEM engines to their limits, factory components often fall short. Platinum Racing Products in partnership with Crest CNC addresses these issues with their new cast cylinder head for the Subaru EJ series.

✅ Solving EJ Series Problems
Known for head lifting and cracking, the EJ20 needed a robust solution. PRP's cast head offers improved intake port spacing for larger valves, thicker head material, and a redesigned exhaust port for better flow and reduced back pressure.

☝️ Why Cast Over Billet?
While billet is great for prototypes, casting is ideal for mass production, offering better thermal expansion properties and consistent quality.

🔥 Enhanced Performance
The new design supports 14mm head studs and versatile coil mounting options, making it easier for high-power builds. Customizable port designs allow for CNC porting up to 420 CFM, ensuring optimal performance.

Pushing the envelope of what a bottomless money pit can be in terms how how bottomless the bottomless moneypit can possibly be.

If PRP are backing the EJ they must see it as having serious performance potential

Is it worth thinking about? Hell yeah! Can't wait to see it flow tested, dyno'd, and stressed in a race car.
Someone get a set to Dave Localio!

Cool, with precision 3D printed cores being available for some time, I'd expect some other very smart folks will be working on their own unique requirements.

What I'm REALLY looking forward to is some really smart folks casting the head and block as a unit, with it bolting seperately to a 2 piece crankcase assembly, like engines were cast way back in the early days.
With no heade gasket, there can't be a problem with them leaking or heads lifting. With no requirement to pass the big end of the 'rod through the bore that can be made stronger and/ or use larger fasteners - the diesel chaps would benefit there. The upper crank-case can be stronger as the webbing isn't going to require piston reliefs and it can be more rigid and provide a lot more "meat" for the main studs, as can the lower crankcase - with the potential to incorporate the sump assembly for further rigidity - or just being left as a simple girdle.

I'm wondering what a head is going to cost compared to a new head (from Subaru). This head would seem like going NA with ITB's screamer build would finally make more sense.

Herman I know you’re reading… SR20VVL heads man. We’re running low 😅

Hopefully they re-route the exhaust port to have a direct flow vs a 45 degree angle, causes alot of the overheating issues with those corresponding cylinders.

Wrote this before the end of the video haha way to go guys!

Awesome. I wonder if they'll recast the EJ blocks too once these heads are no longer the weak point.

It would be good to see the casting process that goes into making some of their products
