Crete | Walking In Heraklion Town

Показать описание
Heraklion, as the chief city of Crete, is a rather large place, so any strolling has to have a distinct purpose and objective.
Assuming that your hotel is in or near the centre of town, a good walk would include 25 August street, now pedestrianized and lined with smart shops, uphill past the preserved Renaissance-type lozzia at Venizelos Square, where you can relax with an aperitif in front of the 17th century Morosini Fountain with its marble lions.
Or there's what's known as Dirty Alley, a street off 25 August Street, where you can savour an excellent and inexpensive meal of apaki, or succulent fried pork chunks, a Cretan specialty.
