Thank you for a easy, tasty tutorial! It has been many years since I have eaten grilled mackerel. I made this today on the grill and without the added salt. I also marinated it in mirin and lime juice instead of sake since I had none on hand. It was exceptional and was a big hit with guests alongside grilled bok choy and rice!

This was delicious and so easy. I used an air fryer and added some olive oil to the fish, came out perfect. Family really enjoyed. Thank you!

This was my favorite hospital dish in Japan! I've been craving it for months already. Thank you chef for sharing!

By the way, may I know what sake I should use? Can I use Mirin instead?

Lovely! What other types of wildcaught Japanese fish are good to cook this way? Is it a pain to clean the grill after? Thanks.

Hello from Italy, Turin.
I have never been very good at cooking fish, nor at grilling. I have followed this recipe step by step and the result was extremely good.
I warmly agree about marinating the fish with a bit of sake: the flavor was much more interesting.
I couldn’t find daikon so I sliced some rapanels. I have a feeling they would be better if seasoned with mild vine, lime… something acidic and fresh.
I don’t have a Japanese style grill, but I used a grilling pan on my induction cooker. Worked very well.
Thanks!
