The Cassowary is the living proof that birds are related to dinosaurs

Fun Fact: there was an ancient Greek philosopher who was killed when a lammergeier dropped a tortoise on his head, supposedly mistaking his bald head for a rock.

Emus probably should have been #1. They fought a war against the Australian military and WON despite never actually going on the offensive.

No matter how dangerous they can be I still love birds, my favourite members of the animal kingdom. The Grey Heron is my personal favourite bird.

I saw some emus at a zoo when I was a kid. There was only a chain link fence separating us from the birds, that massive bird growled at us. I'd never seen a bird growl before. We gave it some space.

As someone who was attacked by birds as a kid and still flinches if one gets too close (if one was ever in my office I would legit go home for the day), this list is needed so thank you WM lol

I never heard of the Pitohui, but that’s great info to know. There’s so many things about nature that we don’t understand

I can't believe the emu war didn't come up in this. Huge missed opportunity by Watch Mojo.

"You can mainly find emus in Australia..."
And car insurance commercials.

"If you're ever in the Arctic..." (re: snowy owls)
Or near Hogwarts (honestly, Harry Potter has one of those as a **pet**?)

We raised emus on our farm in East Texas when I was a kid. I was around full grown emus when I was eight years old, and never felt like I was in danger. The only time I was ever injured by one I was trying to catch a baby to move to another pen when it tripped and fell on its back, In trying to get back up it kicked and scratched my face.

Watchmojo, I know that as Canadians, you have some variation of a goose story. We ALL do.

Plus, the claw on the middle toe of a cassowary clocks in about 3 - 5" (7 - 12 centimeters) long.

If you've seen what the foot of a moa looks like, you'd do best NOT to mess with emus. There was once a "war" in Australia in 1932 to wipe them out: only 986 emus were killed.

Plus, magpies can remember faces for up to 5 years, so if you get attacked by a magpie, it'll REMEMBER you.

I sadly lost one of my cousins to a red-tailed hawk attack.
