Massive Alligator Spotted on Alabama Beach

Beachgoers spotted a massive alligator catching some waves in Alabama. However, alligators are typically found in freshwater, not in the ocean. Inside Edition's Ann Mercogliano spoke with wildlife expert Ron Magill. He says torrential rains and floods are causing alligators to have access to different areas they did not normally have. Magill also says the alligator is in salt water basically by mistake as they're traveling from one place to another.

As a native Alabamian, that is a juvenile alligator, it's far from massive. In fact he might have ended up there because he was trying to get away from the big alligators territory. I've found 7-8ft gators on the river before that were ripped in half by a bigger territorial alligator.

I've seen this before off the coast of Carolina back in the 80s/early 90s; way back before everyone had a camera in their pocket. I think I (or my uncle) have old camcorder footage somewhere.

Gators were definitely in the area but they were always in a fresh water pond near the beach visitor center, not swimming in the ocean-- lmao. I remember talking to one of the park rangers about the gator we saw and they said more than likely it was one of their pond gators who was pregnant, out looking for a nesting area and got lost in the ocean.

There was a gator in Belize in Ambergris Caye hanging out under one of the resort piers and they had to trap it and relocate it. A snorkeler came up on him and got a huge scare.

Expert: "He's more interested in love than making a beach goer his lunch."
Me: But would they pass up the opportunity to have both? 😅

They may not like salt water, but the ability of these apex creatures to adapt is why they have been around since prehistoric times. I don't look forward to when this becomes usual.

Floridian here, that's not massive. Rather small, actually. Probably just a juvenile trying to get away from a bigger one's territory to avoid being torn in half.

That’s another class example of why I’m not a beach person anymore like I used to be.

Alabama has an ocean? You'd think they'd market their state off of that.

He better get out of there quick and realize that his species isn't the top of the food chain in those waters before he learns it the hard way 😂
