I actually heard that "Eskrima" just comes from the Spanish word for "fencing"-NOT "skirmish", which is a really fast battle. I also heard that, historically speaking, FMA are just a combination of silat and related arts, mixed with Spanish renaissance era fencing.

KALI is also derived from two Bisayan words..KAmot (Hand) LIhok (movement)..that's why it's called Kali also.

Escrimas foot work is back snd fort. Arnis foot work is triangle, kali foot work comes from silat of Indonesia and Malaysia.

So. Kali, coming from the Kris blade doesn't have anything to do with the Martial Art itself..?

And Arnis means to protect or the protection of the Hand. That way your fingers or hand won't get cut off.

While Eskrima is a type of scrimmage between 2 fighters with weapon(s).
🤔👍

Why no Southeast Asian master representative to explain the difference between silat, kali, eskrima and arnis? We need a real asian master to explain this field.

What are u talking about? Arnis was never influenced by fencing. How could that be true since Magellan, the first European to have set foot on the Philippines was killed by a Filipino Arnis practitioner in battle. Thats world history. Look at the size of that sword you're holding compared to a fencing sword. They have nothing in common. Eskrima comes from the Spanish word "la esgrima" which means "fencing", "SWORDSMANSHIP", or "SWORDSPLAY". The Spaniards only called it "la esgrima" because its a "SWORDSPLAY", not because its been influenced by fencing. Arnis is a full system of its own and fencing is an entirely different one. If there are any similarities in form, it's only because the mechanics of our anatomy works the same. We're all Humans. A person from one side of the world will throw a punch similar in form to a person from the other side of the world, because of body mechanics, not influence.
