How to Steal from Traders in Baldur's Gate 3

How to steal items from any trader in Baldur's Gate 3 using the bag trick exploit. Please note, I have only tested this method on pc and may not work on other platforms at this time.

1. Have two backpacks in your inventory.
2. Speak with the trader you want to steal from and open the trade menu.
3. Open the barter menu and sell one of the backpacks to the trader.
4. Open the backpack in the trader’s inventory and start dragging items that you want into the backpack.
5. Open the second backpack in your inventory.
6. In the trader’s backpack, click the first item in the backpack, hold Shift, then click the last item to select everything.
7. While still holding shift, drag all the items to the backpack icon of the bag in your inventory. Do not hover the items over the inventory slots. Be sure to hover over the icon at the top of the backpack.
8. Now you can safely close the backpacks, close the trade menu, leave the conversation with the trader and everything you stole will be in the backpack in your inventory.

Thanks a lot. I saw another youtuber do this as part of their long stream and tried to replicate it but kept failing. The error was in trying to move it into the item slots instead of the bag icon.

Note: You _can_ let go of shift before you drag, it works as well!

This hack has been around for quite some time, at least 2 months. I think this may be the item theft/infinite gold hack that has lasted the longest, because all of the others seemed to get patched out pretty quickly. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely works...i came across this cause i was trying to just use normal stealing, but Brem in the Zhent hideout would not interact with me after stealing gold back. This works and i was able to keep interacting with him after. And just to see if it works, i tried this with pouches and it does work. Thanks for the help.

Edit: So turns out it still, kind of, works. Putting everything the trador has, or just what you want from them in a bag, will make the bag lootable after you kill them

Just want to update, this bag trick exploit doesn't work any more; you not only aren't able to move the stuff from the first backpack to the second backpack, when you leave the window the merchant will clock you for theft. I just tried this with Arron at the Emerald Grove.

If it's not working, make sure you use a BACKPACK and NOT a camp supply sack. That fixed it for me.

Thanks for sharing btw, this is going to be a game changer for me. I love this game, but sometimes I don't want to have to spend hours trying to collect enough candles to trade for a scroll of firewall, I just want to get my shit and move on with the plot, ya know?
