I cut my hair. I lowered my voice. I have lost my self. But i made a decision, to regain that which i have lost. It's still in me. This i know.

I'm not my mother savage daughter but her savage son and this song gives me goosebumps when I listen to this song.

This song has become a symbol of resistance for the Native community, specifically the chorus. "I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice"
Your voice is beautiful and perfect for this song!

Let’s face it. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what gender you are, this song is beautiful and we all feel connected to it.
To all my fellow savage children out there!

My mother has passed but was a full-blooded Irish woman. Red-haired, hot-tempered and would scream like a banshee. I was the oldest daughter and the rebel of the pack. I am my mother's daughter only with blonde hair with a white streak down the side of my hair and the only child born with blue eyes. I'm an activist for Human Rights and this song fits me like a glove. Thanks for sharing this.

I seen loads of "irish" people who were actually American, complaining about Native American people using this song on tiktok. Irish people and Native American people literally are meant to support each other, we have helped each other many times. I'm irish, and I love that Native American people are using this song to bring awareness to the oppression and abuse towards Native American people.

There is another set of lyrics which was forgotten in this cover!

"My mother's child curses too loud and too often,
My mother's child laughs too hard and too long,
And howls at the moon and sleeps in ditches,
And clumsily raises her voice in this song"

Native American woman here. My hair is two feet long. I have cut it once in my whole life, to shoulder length. I felt incomplete, like I lost a vital part of my being. Its grown back now, and I feel free. Don't let people tell you what to do with your hair.

This song makes me feel connected to every woman in my family (past and present) and each time I hear it I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes.

I think females all over the world could feel a connection to this song, especially those of us who feel somewhat like outcasts. For me it’s spiritual not racial. It gives me chills honestly, but I was afraid to get into it because it’s Irish and I’m black, and people usually act like you’re trying to be something you’re not if you enjoy someone’s culture. But I said whatever and went with it. I posted it on social media because I loved the song that much

to all the people getting angry about Natives or anyone else using this song as a symbol of their resistance - even though it's originally Norse-inspired, Wyndreth herself has said
_"It is an anthem of empowerment--not a song meant to serve a specific blood or people or skin. If you find strength and power and your own voice in it, this is your song and i hope you sing it with the strength and rage and beauty and power that is within you--whoever you are. Women are not ever Less Than."_

(just please please remember to credit the original writer and singer, I see too many covers of this song that don't even mention that it's a cover)

I'm in love with this. I am dubbing this my daughter's theme song. She's a beautiful, brilliant, wild little blue eyed ginger of Irish heritage. She'll be 3 next week and she's the most amazing little human I've ever met! And I swear on my life I'll always encourage her to be bold, brave, and outspoken!

From a Catholic Woman to my Pagan and Wiccan sisters...we all have that “Savage Daughter” in us, no matter what you call a higher power or even believe in one. Love you all in spirit, don’t cut that hair!

Me: a guy
Also me: I AM MY MOTHER'S SAVAGE DAUGHTER

(Edit: this definitely falls into the category of "I am the only one allowed to misgender myself for a good time" lmao)
