The closest I’ll probably come to conquering Swiss mountains is eating a whole Toblerone in one go.

Fact: the german KSK special forces send their soldiers to this swiss mountaineering training.
There is a cooperation.
German helicopter pilots are send to Switzerland to. In high altitude mountain areas, the swiss pilots are probably the best in Europe.

I am Swiss army Grenadier. These guys thought us the basics of how to behave in the mountains as example build an Iglu as they should in the video. As far as I spoke with one of the there Instructors personally these People they have grown almost all up in the Mountains and already have a lot of expertise. Before joining there ranks you must do physical Screening test and a test that shows how much expertise you already have. when you are really good you can decide if you want to go during Winter in to the Military or the summer. The Basic training only lasts up to three weeks; after words you learn much more about the Mountains like repelling ect. for the next 15 weeks. But they work with foreign country together to share there expertise and the course that they give for foreign countries isn't about combat its more just about the mountains. About fighting in different environments I can't really tell much but the most difficult about the Mountains is the height and the on even terrain. And thanks for making such great content I always learn something new on this channel.

I was a "Gebirgsjäger" (a mountaineer or mountain specialist) in the Austrian army. I kept up mountaineering after my military service. The skills you learn do erode, but it's like riding a bike. If you get back in, you usually pick up your skills again pretty fast. I had to laugh when you said that it seems fun in nice weather. Well, you're not wrong. It can be a lot of fun, but if the weather turns while you are up there, you really need to know what you're doing. You start to develope a sense for changes in the weather after a while. You also learn (or are forced to learn lol) how to live with the cold and wind. Both the most beautiful and the worst weather conditions I have seen, were while in the mountains. The most amazing thing is after you got caught in a snow storm (not by surprise. That would be bad) and you see the mountains in beautiful weather right after it's blown over. It is a lot of work though and in part somewhat scary even if you love heights. The most annoying thing is carrying you rifle around lol. Cheers to my comrades on the otherside of the Rhine🇦🇹🍻🇨🇭

I'm part of that unit.

Thanks for the praising, it's really not that hard if you grew up in those environments. For all of you whom are active, try to apply for the winter pfp course and come check it out... Cheers

I'm from Zürich and only did one day of mountain training in the army. We did some basic rapelling and then hiked up a mountain. We all had a really hard time, our legs were killing us and we were sweating like pigs. Our basic layer shirts were soaked by the time we got to the top. As we caught our breath, the instructor took off his camo jacket and I kid you not, he was completely dry. He was carrying the same gear as we were and his armpits were barely damp, while we were literally dripping with sweat. We were quite impressed.

When the German Kaiser asked in 1912 what the quarter of a million Swiss militiamen would do if invaded by a half million German soldiers, a Swiss replied: shoot twice and go home.

Was a Combat (Panzer) Sapper in the swiss army, which was hard and amazing in its own way. Very nice to see you review the swiss armed forces. We certainly do not have the most experienced army in the world (fortunate lack of wars to fight in), but I feel that mandatory military service is an overall advantage to society, enforcing discipline, resilience and brotherhood amongst young men.

I am actually a trained Swiss Mountain Specialist, summer and winter. This video shows just a small part of what we did. The secret is that everyone already is a climber/skier/mountaineer when becoming one.

BUT. Can everyone cool down about being so dramatic when it comes to the military?? My first reaction to this video was laughing. I don't get why everyone on YouTube thinks the military is so terrific and great and all. We just were a bunch of climbers in uniform who grew up in the mountains and had some months of specific training in handling ropes. Of course we knew how to handle the mountains. Probably this isn't the best commentsection for this rant but I hope some people understand.

I only spent a few weeks in the Swiss mountains for my military training. The weather there is indeed dangerous and unpredictable. Sometimes it was impossible to see *anything* due to fog or snowfall. We even spent a week in a freaking igloo. 4 meters of snow and it was deep below zero degrees Celsius. But I have to say the military equipment was really good; I was never very cold.

I was a medic in the Swiss army and even though l have finished my required days of service l got deployed back last year in March to support the health care system. This was the first time since 1945 that soldiers were used to defend the country, only this time it was a virus. I am proud to be a veteran and l will never forget what l learned in the military.

I actually live in switzerland, in a rural area: an hour away from the next bigger city. I am used to being out and about in the mountains in summer and winter. However, one should never underestimate the danger, as many people are injured or even die every year.
To be able to move safely in the mountains you need a lot of knowledge, which is made up of experience and possible trainingcourses . For me it is normal to go to the mountains on a weekend, for others it is normal to go to bars every weekend. But not all Swiss people enjoy going to the mountains. It is an exhausting and sometimes dangerous hobby. Unfortunately, more and more accidents happen because many people underestimate their planned tour and "forget" the altitude. To prevent this from happening, please book a local tour guide, they will help you with safety and can tell you something about the panorama.

Good video sir, I’m Swiss and I live at 1100 m here in the alps and I can confirm that most of us are used to these type of environment. Personally and for a lot of my friends we’ve been skiing since we’re 2, going rock climbing, mountaineering with our parents and with friends now. Also used to cold weather, and the oxygen level . I know some people in the para recons and some mountain warfare specialists, and even for them who are used to mountains it’s really tough, lot of respect for these guys. I’m currently training to become a fighter pilot here 🇨🇭semper fidelis🇨🇭

Look up the Austrian/Italian front in ww1 in the alps. Two massive conscript armies smashing against each other in the Alps for 3 years with equipment that was bad even 100 years ago.
They still have corpses coming out the glaciers now they're melting

I was also a mountain specialist there. The mountaineering stuff is rather easy in private if you are used to. What is hard, is to carry the military equippement additional to the mountaineering equippement with you. Altogether is heavy and you have to go over difficult terrain with this. And as you mentioned, you have to be prepared for fast changing weather.

I’ve been through that training as a participant. What you don’t see here is the enormous logistics to keep everyone safe, including medics on alert and helicopters nearby. As it was only training, sometimes we had to wait because the rescue helicopters could not fly - shall the need arise - because of the weather. We always had a helicopter sitting literally one or two minutes away. The environment creates unique challenges. In extreme cold if you touch anything metallic your skin will stick to it, and you cannot do everything with gloves on. We use a special graphite-based grease for automatic weapons (Automatenfett) and use very little of it, to ensure they don’t freeze solid. I highly recommend you get some if you can :)
