After years of rumors and months of patience, Ubisoft has finally dropped Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the AC titled based in a world full of vikings. While I had a degree of anticipation for this game, it still managed to surprise me in a lot of great ways! While not perfect, this is one of the best entries in the series that manages to properly respond to the criticism of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I'm glad you didn't use "brutally honest" in the title.

An old Norse language professor at my college was a consultant for this game, so I'm pretty interested in how well AC did with the immersion...

For me, the combat in Valhalla, especially the parrying, took some time getting used to, but when I got used to it, it just became pure fun.

"The core gameplay elements (combat and stealth) are bad, but it didn't detract from my experience." Uuuhhhh..?

I always knew there would be a Vikings assassin's creed because greek, egyptian, and norse, are the big 3 of mythologies

I wish they would just ditch the Assassins Creed stuff and make cool historical rpgs

I don’t mind long setups/intros when you’re dealing with a game that has 100+hours of content. It honestly feels appropriate percentage wise, and AC games are so damn good I love it when they lay a solid foundation for the rest of the game.

Not to sound weird here. But your videos, background, personality, "atmosphere" per say, has such a cozy feeling to it. It's like booting up fallout 4 on a snowy day with nothing to do. Great video as always by the way!

Moving from here, id love it if Ubisoft’s next challenge was almost a remake of Assassins Creed 1 with a combo of this open world/combat style with a return to the story of the first game. By “remake” i mean redoing the setting and story of the first game but expanding it. Think it could work as a sequel too, and for the “in-universe” reasoning for returning to that game would be something like “we missed something in Desmond’s animus experience, let’s go back to where it all began with him”. Also an “in-universe” reasoning for the “remake” feel would be the fact we’re using a completely new animus that is several versions more advanced than the original, hence why were able to explore more of Altair’s setting and world.

Odyssey and Origins were such treats. I honestly can't wait to dive into Valhalla. Just picked up my copy and it's downloading as we speak. My weekend is set!

I will always hate the modern day part of assassin's creed.

it ruins the game and basically tells you everything you do is for nothing.

Personally I really like how the game approach loot and exploring. In fact this isn't really loot when you find something it actually matter . Want to keep the first axe because it fit your gameplay ? Just keep it equipped and upgrade it . I felt alot of influence from black flag in the exploration, especially the ressources gathering. I actually did go the complete assassin route with my builds and felt like the game design really help it.

As someone who actually loves Dragon Age Inquisition (played it this week even) I love hearing that a game took some of it's systems and evolved on them. I saw alot of potential in the dialogue systems it had

"stealth & combat are bad"
- One of the best AC game.
and that's why they should rename this serie "Animus Stories" instead of ASSASSIN's creed.
Because the assassin part of the game is forgotten since black flag (Origin used Black Flag as a base).

I don't even need to buy the game to know it will be fast-travel land like the 2 previous one because the map is too big.

Man I miss the big cities with verticality, hiding spot, actual parcour mechanics & actually being lost/amazed by the buildings, mood, characters, etc... Something lost in the empty spaces in Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla.

I can't get over the gorgeous music in this game. By far my favorite of any AC or almost any game

I'm really enjoying Valhalla. Mainly because it's a good solid viking game experience. I've never been a fan of the previous games as they always felt a bit silly. Why would I wear this distinct bright white hooded suit that screamed 'assassin incoming' in a crowd full of normally dressed peasents. Especially since the templars would be trained on seeking out the assassins lol. The stealth in this game felt more natural. I felt like I was casing the towns out like a thief before a viking heist in this game. Especially as the dress sense and colour blends in more, as opposed to a fancy guided white gold robe like in the other games. But I do think they are trying to force the Absturgo modern day Animus stuff a bit too much. Probably because it's the only link that makes this an AC game, without it, it would just be a viking rpg

I feel like Ubisoft needs to stop wasting their time putting the Assassin's Creed label on these new games and just make them there own series because I feel that them trying to add the Creed is distracting from the experience and just making people disappointed when it's not what they wanted.
