Heyo. Man that lifetime plan with all languages access is really nice. If I had to choose between all apps mentioned so far I think I would go for Rocket Chinese. That being said I am very impressed with ChineseForUs. It has tests, grammer, a lot of fokus on writing and reading and speaking of course. It even has paths to get up to HSK3 fluency with tests.

I'm looking forward to see the babble review for Mandarin Chinese. I've always found your Rocket and Babble reviews to be more my style.

It is very important that you do not cut corners with Rosetta Stone. What is cutting corners, you ask. Well, in each lesson, and especially the core lessons, you will be introduced to new phrases and words which are linked to images. You will likely have enough of a vocabulary to be able to deduce what image the phrase is referring to without fully needing to understand or comprehend the whole phrase. For example, if the core lessons is introducing phrases involving items that are new (xīn) versus items that are old (jiù). You will be tempted to just go off of what you already know (say, the word for red, hóng sè de) to find the correct photo, almost ignoring what you don’t know. Avoid doing that.

I was using rocket for awhile and totally loved it. I recommend it to people a lot. Just don’t like how it’s expensive.
