In this episode, I lay out the 4 waves of feminism as they are normally described. Then, I critizise discriminatory dynamics within the feminist movement and the way it is historicized.

I know my channel is still small, but I hope to invest in better audio and video editing software in the future, so I set up a Ko-fi page if anyone is feeling like they are able to contribute something to this project :) It's low threshold and allows one-time paymentd which was important for me since I know about... well life in this world...? xd
Any help is very much appreciated!

14:45 I agree that men should be welcomed into activism for women but many male feminists only focus on the ways it can benefit them (ie let boys cry, sexual liberalism, etc) then the focus ends up shifting from women's liberation. There are also topics of male violence that women may want to discuss amongst each other but would be uncomfortable fully expressing with men in the room. Safe spaces for only women are important alongside mixed sex activist settings

There is history even in the 1800s that the 4 waves model ignores.
Check out anarcha-feminism. It’s interesting to see what earlier writers thought about similar issues and even came to the same conclusions as the later radical feminists

Thank you very much for these insights and many thought-provoking ideas! I think it's great how you structure your research and thoughts, but also present them in such an aesthetically pleasing way. It's an all-round successful sensory experience: learning, thinking and at the same time being touched by the photos and works of art with which you underpin your statements. Once again: Thank you!

20:19 I think it's unfair to talk about the suffragists who used racist ideology without also talking about the fight for universal suffrage which the earliest first wave feminists subscribed to (along with previously fighting for the abolition of slavery). There were feminists in all waves that were allies to other progressive causes including toward racial equality

I do think that feminist "helped men" or theorized about liberating men from patriarchy before the third wave. The thing is they did so in a different way, bell hooks talked about how men were indoctrinated inti the patriarchy, queer feminists talked about how patriarchy was a force in oppressing gay men (the history of second wave, queer rights, and trans liberation is wild interacting, the groups and alliances looked completely different) and thirdworld/POC feminist talked about how race and gender combined in a way that also hurt men of color

22:48 I don't think Sisterhood is Powerful at all implies that all women are treated as equals in society? It means we should have each other's backs and act in solidarity with each other against all oppression and discrimination. Sisterhood means white women in solidarity with women of color against racism.
