I have a 2024 Mazda 3 sedan and the only serious gripe I have is the transmission tends to be jerky when driving in slow traffic. Everything else is great.

Mazdas 2.5T is one of the most reliable turbos on the market currently, generally has less issues than the current gen NA 2.5 variant with timing cover leaks, and Cylinder deactivation issues

The 40/20/40 fold down rear seats is a premium feature. You can fit four passengers and long items like skis at the same time in the cabin.

The N/A 2.5 is fine for most people, but the turbo is definitely nicer to drive and looks a lot better with the gloss black trim, too. The price difference between the premium plus (N/A) and turbo premium is relatively small for what you get, which makes the turbo premium the sweet spot in terms of trim choice IMO

I have a hatch3, my dad has the cx50, and I love them both. Worked at Mazda for a bit and got to drive them all, loved the cx5. That's a good looking color and interior.

Proud owner of a 2022 cx-5 without cylinder deactivation. Although traffic jam assist would’ve been nice on the preferred trim. I have roll raced mustang 5.0’s, ram trx and somehow managed to come out on top. No mechanical issues in 74, 000 miles other than the side of my seat coming undone because I snagged the thing with my boot. Have drove through reasonably high floodwaters, and took it on the sandy beach with standard all season tires. I can drift hard around corners with the awd, I wanted a Miata. It unfortunately I do rideshare. This car is damn near bullet proof

Need to try those cup holders under the hood with the BFBT.

Love the interior. Wish they had that option on the cx 50. The teracotta in that is just ok

i really, really, really want to like the CX5 more. i think my biggest issue is, if i'm buying a car, at least for me personally, i'm driving it till the doors, wheels, etc. fall off. I have not gotten rid of a car prior to it reaching 250, 000 miles before, and i held onto my corolla until it was past 300, 000 miles. for all the niceties incorporated into this, if i'm buying something to last me 10-15 years and 250, 000+ miles, i'm not sure i can justify spending that near-$40, 000 on a car that's 7 years old already when stripped to the bones. it's proven its reliability over and over again, so i know i can trust it on that front as opposed to, say, a new forester, since it just got a redesign. but it's a hard ask to have me commit to something that's almost a decade old already for easily another decade *at that price tag.* if i wanted a car from 2017 i'd go to a used car lot somewhere and snag a previous generation rav4 for less than half the asking price of one of these. maybe this is just me thinking too deeply about things. who knows lol.

I have owned a 2024 Mazda CX-5 for a little over a year and 12, 000 miles. It’s such a good car. It handles reasonably well for what it is, the ride despite being on the firm side is comfortable on longer trips. The infotainment is solid enough, Apple CarPlay works like it’s supposed to 95% of the time, the other 5 is as simple as selecting it from the menu. Despite the turbo not getting a huge power bump, the torque makes a big difference especially when passing in the highway. Fuel economy is pretty meh, I have never once been able to crack 30 on the highway. For the next generation, I hope Mazda doesn’t stray too far from this basic formula.

Mazdas are underrated cars. They're fun without being quirky. It's surprising that they're not more common but I guess that makes them cars for people who care.

This is the exact crossover I'm looking at my family getting to replace our old gas guzzling 2008 300C with the 5.7L V8. This would be more fun to drive & luxurious that the 300 & it would less thirsty on gas since it gets better MPG & it only needs regular grade gas instead of needing 89 grade gas. I love this color combination for this Carbon Turbo trim but we might go for the more understated white exterior door the Carbon Turbo or the Deep Crystal Blue Mica or Machine Gray Metallic for the Signature trim

I'm a Mitsubishi fan and plan on getting a fully loaded Outlander in the future, but I'm definitely considering a Mazda as well. They're just neat and well made.

The Car Care Guy said the same thing a few days ago. He also mentioned the drivetrain internals are Toyota.

I know of a couple of people who refuse to buy Mazda because of the “not a touchscreen” touchscreen issue. In short, because the hardware is already there, and virtually every manufacturer has already migrated to touchscreens, Mazda just seems to be hard headed and obtuse with the infotainment, which is now a significant part of the car purchase decision.

Do you personally prefer the CX5 or CX50?

I like 6spd transmission in new cars. There is less gear hunting when getting down the road. My 6spd auto suv gets 33mpg on the highway.

Curious how the handling of the 1st generation compares to the current one? The manual transmission of the 1st gen potentially has my eye for when my beloved Mazda 2 no longer gives me joy.

Wife has a NA cx5, love it, but the NA is a little slow IMO. I have a cx9 and its night and day difference w the turbo. All great cars!

Zack, When is the CX-5 going to get the same upgrade to the RAV4 Hybrid powertrain that the CX-50 has already received? 🤔
