The more formal you are with the email, the scarier you are to HR. HR is used to the emotional and crying people. A formal, well-made complaint means you have the intelligence to get them in trouble should they not comply.

My workplace is an HR nightmare. It's institutional.
I was completely "mean girled."
One of the managers lied about me a lot.
A year into the job, very hostile the entire time, and the same boss jokes to my face about "trying to get me fired since I got there".
These women are straight up feral in the boonies.
My favorite boss quit today.
I hope she gets an employment lawyer... I would definitely be happy to converse with them.

He is completely right. I made this mistake twice. And I was being harassed by the same people and I never reported it to the police. I thought HR would actually help me but they didn't. Actually gave me a reformation for it. Even though I was the one getting taunted bullied everyday give an extra work everyday by my coworkers and I would be the one getting yelled at by my lead because they would tell them I was the one not doing it or I said that I would do it. When in fact I didn't. They even said that on days I wasn't even at work and I show that to the HR representative and they said oh must have been a mistake. Hr is just to protect the company's ass. They don't care about you, especially when you're getting harassed.

Learned this the hard way at my first job. Overheard a coworker graphically describing the kidnapping & rape of our female manager, reported it thinking HR & the police would do something. They essentially told me that only the manager could report it or else it's just "he said/he said." I warned all of the women in the building & they started arming themselves & walking in groups because of this guy. He'd get ballsier & get even more graphic in detail when he was around me to flaunt the fact he could do what he wanted & not be punished, & I tried to tell HR, but the HR lady just smacked a complaint form in front of me & said with an attitude, "You should know how to fill this out by now since you waste our time so much."

It wasn't until he started spreading rumors about me to the point people refused to work with me (because ofc everyone took this man's side & called me a snitch) that he finally got fired for retaliation. Disgusting.

I was told by the HR consultant that harassment, bullying for an insanely toxic co-worker, was not creating a hostile work environment. They said only sexual harassment constituted as a hostile work environment.

Ive had this happen to me many times and I kept it unemotional in a letter showing proof of abuse and in one instance stealing….my advice is if it happens more than 3 times and the company wont fire them, find another job and report to unemployment. You will get unemployment granted to you if you have proof of the abuse and have notified management and the problem continued.

Bullying is harassment, call a spade a spade. The end result is all that should matter in a court or an hr office.

I ALWAYS leave emotion out of it, and only state facts.

Bulling is “workplace harassment” in Australia

So basically, HR departments are legally allowed to feign ignorance to the fact that bullying is harassment.

In my department we had a few comments on a survey where people mentioned they felt bullied or harassed. I am on the engagement team for our department. I’m not HR and I plan to bring attention to the fact some feel that way and ask my department leaders how they will offer support to hopefully help in some way. I want to make sure those people feel supported. No one should feel that way at work.

Bullying IS "creating a hostile workplace environment" by definition.

My husband had a work bully that physically threatened him on camera. Then he urinated in his 300 dollar work boots. That guy still works there. My husband had to leave. Employers don't give a single shit about us.

I completely disagree. HR is there to protect the company. Depending on the state, if you bring up harassment or a hostile work environment, no matter which words you choose and how formal or informal, YOU are the one who is fired. NEVER go to HR unless you are applying for another position or asking about your health plan. NEVER

If HR doesn't do anything to stop it, report HR to the inspector general (if your agency has an IG). HR was protecting a bully at my job. So I tipped off the IG. Now the corrupted HR staff who were protecting the bully have been fired or reassigned. And now management has a plan to fire the bully within the next 2-3 weeks. This whole process took almost two years from the time I first complained about the bullying.

I wish I had known to even make a complaint back in my 20s. The company I worked for bought another company to do the work I and 3 other people were doing. The old owners stayed on as VPs and managed the new "to us" location in another state. The other 3 people in my department decided to find new jobs and I was the only one that was willing to move states to go to the new site. When I got there it became obvious the old owner (now my manager) hadn't wanted anyone from my company to transfer over. That place was one of the main reasons I left programming.

I have bullied multiple times at different jobs, to the point my self worth dropped so low I have thought I was the problem.

Now I just dont tolerate it at all and will nip it in the butt.
