Knowing how to code can sometimes be a double-edged sword when starting a tech business. It's often called the 'Creator's Curse'—the urge to jump into building instead of focusing on the essentials.

As coders, we often feel compelled to create something right away, pushing aside critical tasks like talking to potential customers, building a roadmap, and strategizing. However, these foundational steps are what truly set you up for success.

In this video, I break down why it's crucial to prioritize these tasks before diving into coding and how avoiding the creator's curse can help you build a successful tech startup.

I am a data scientist, and 2 years ago I asked my boss, I am not doing any complex analysis myself, you have given me 4 people, who do everything, what is my impact? He answered your definition of impact is wrong, impact is not the 'complex analysis' you do, impact is the 'number of lives touched and improved by your analysis'. He gave me a huge opportunity, which I didn't realize then. But, with this video, it's crystal clear, thanks!!

"Very relatable, sir. My team and I, as developers, recently started a project. Today(before your video😅), we realized that focusing on the problem, not the solution, is key. Spending at least 2-3 months crafting a thorough Business Requirement Document (BRD) greatly helps. Initially, it's essential to prioritize problem understanding over coding. To truly add value, you must be or consult with stakeholders who understand the needs you're addressing. Sage advice: Without intimate knowledge of the problem's core, you'll likely develop a copied solution."

I have come to realize this as well. The current product that I am building is because I want to save to save time and money. Now I am going to talk to people.

One question is how to identify your ideal customer and where to find them? Next, talking to 50 odd people is a target to me. Does the number looks good?

Very insightful, Ashish!

I am a 53 yr old man and I want to get the product built. But given my age, I am finding it difficult to get a good coder person/company. Second constraint is the very limited budget. Please guide.

I am a frontend developer an average coder working in startup. and now I am learning and working on mobile app. I want to work on something unique ideas. I felt stuck in our startup no idea whether new projects are coming or not no nothing and other than technical my issue is english speaking . so my question is how will I overcome fear of speaking in english ? although I read aloud everyday consume english content . It would be better if you give me any suggestion and ideas to achieve this. the reason for asking this silly question is if I want to build something and that product or service I want to sell then global language is required. so, I am excepting that you will guide me correctly. one of your friend. ☺

Hi sir, I am a college student from a non-tech background pursuing a non-tech degree. I don't have any friends with technical knowledge. Nobody trust me on LinkedIn; where can I find such person? And should I be considering hiring a technical co-founder or a technical individual instead? Since no one will work for free, I am considering hiring a co-founder.
