Panther in general is wrong, while it does mean every big cat with melanism, it refers specifically to the panthera family(tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards and jaguars) big cats are cats that can roar beacuse they have special designed bone in their throat that can let out epic yet terrifying roar, but some cats like pumas are called panthers beacuse they look like big cats but actualy they are the biggest of "small cats" they can't roar and they are not in panthera family.

Granted "Panthera" is the genus, but I say a "black panther" is a leopard and a black jaguar is a black jaguar.
