I don’t know what he gets paid, but he deserves a raise

No matter what you think of the corporations that employ them, these war reporters are insanely brave. They are supposed to wear “press/journalism” vests to let both sides know that they’re only a reporter, but I’ve seen many be shot at close range anyways even wearing the vest. War reporters have a VERY risky job. They’re literally walking into a war zone, completely unarmed, with nothing but a camera.

That cameraman was rock steady and focused! Respect!

Stay 1' off the wall and try to find some soft soil. In the event of a ricochet, shrapnel will travel parallel to a hard surface within a few inches. Also, spread out from the group to minimize the number of casualties a munition causes and to give a better chance for mutual aide after the shelling ceases. Obviously, one does not usually have much choice in their options so maintain awareness of your environment and act quickly.

This comment is a generalization because the best option for increasing survivability is highly dependent on the environment and chance.

The alert message was haunting. Especially the echo afterwards as it reflected across the city

This is the way we the regular people find out about conflicts in the world, Richard Engel and Christiane Amanpour. Thank God for these brave reporters.

This is a very scary video, even more scary for those who were actually there. Wars are a scourge, and very sinister when perpetrated against the innocent.

Thank you for reporting from these hot zones, Mr. Engle. What a life you’ve led.

Oh, and the unnamed cameraman as well. What courage in the face of such devastation.

Mortars coming in very close. Is an understatement. They landed almost on top Richard Engel and his team. Stay safe.

There has always been a band of reporters throught most conflicts around the world for centuries. It is just now the battles and ammunition are more complex. They go, even in this scenario, not knowing what is going to happen.
Very brave and 'gutsy'
Stay safe. Thinking of you 🖖❤

As a 2x Fallujah, Iraq veteran 04-05 & 2006. He’s handling this better than a lot of Marines I know.
