Woodturning a Live Edge Cherry Bowl

Показать описание

About two and a half years ago, I got a big chunk of cherry wood from a viewer who had recently cut down a cherry tree in his yard. I brought this big piece of cherry home and cut it into various pieces with the chainsaw with a few projects in mind. One of the pieces I turned into a live edge bowl. Now that this piece from two and a half years ago has dried, I can finish it and bring it to its final form. I don't do many live edged turnings so this was a little bit of a challenge for me. But it worked out in the end and I think it turned out very nice.

God DAMN I love these videos. I'm 24 years old, studied engineering in college and am now trying to switch over into neuropsychology, but I really wish I could be a woodworker sometimes. Amazing as always Frank! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you.

The fact that these videos all take 2-3 years to make is unbelievable. Much respect!

I love the fluid color and texture of the natural wood. Probably doesn't make since but the natural beauty of the wood that comes out after the work is done.

superb production quality and storytelling on the video Frank, the split-screen at the start was very effective and fun.

I've watched most of your videos over the years. I think this piece is my favorite one yet. It really ended up as a showcase of the material more than the form. Very well done.

i think a lot of people don’t realize that the actual bowl turning is the easy part. most anyone could go out, buy a bowl blank, and turn a nice finished bowl in an afternoon. the truly impressive thing about this channel is the way frank sources, processes, organizes and documents his lumber and blanks over the course of years. it seems like every project he takes on uses stock that he has processed down from the tree himself. from bowl blanks to the basement remodel.

What a beautiful piece! Great to see the projector screen back in use again, always been a fan of your ""outside the box"" editing!

Love your style of video. You explain exactly what you are doing instead of just showing the work your doing. And, no obnoxious music!

That's a very beautiful piece of irregular work, Frank. Now that autumn is coming I can imagine some delicious Oregon apples in the finished bowl.

The "Carol Burnett Mop Lady Alter Ego" of yours is a fun touch. Could've used another rotation or two of the payoff shot. That was a great figured piece of wood and wanted to watch it a bit more. Thank you Frank!

I don't know if I'm more impressed by the cherry burl or your video editing skills.

I've recently thought about doing this kind of live edge myself so your experience is very helpful, especially the part on sanding the overhanging points. Enjoyable and informative video as always, Frank. Keep up the great work!
