Its actually annoying how people don't wanna know what art is and criticize both realism and imagination. Cause growing up i was criticized a bit harshly Cause my art "didn't make sense " or was a bit too strange and unrealistic but when I started realism they were like its a copy? When I do anime, its too childish? Like wtf? Okay you know it alls do the drawing them if you know so much. And honestly I totally get the things about reference pictures Cause when I went to art school almost all the children would more or less use the same reference pictures Cause we only had a few we could choose from and I know that wasn't copying cause all the students and the teachers had their different styles of drawing. But still draw anime, realism and from my imaginations to this day and absolutely love it its so relaxing 😌 💕

Something I think realism beginners forget is to pick a reference photo that isn't another drawing. I see people do this all the time but it's difficult to get your drawing realistic if you're referencing a drawing that already has a style.

Lol The Ugly Phase, It’s too real! 😄
I always know it’s time to take a break at the ugly phase, the art piece looks so much better when you come back to it with fresh eyes and you feel revitalised. ☕️ 🍪 😁

Quick tip: you can use black colored pencil instead of charcoal to get the dark parts

I firmly believe that anybody who says a certain type of art isn't "real art" is just jealous they can't do it. Your art is AMAZING. Thank you so much for these tips, I love learning about different styles! ❤

A really easy and practical alternative to a using blending stump is using a tissue, Toilet paper, or paper towel to blend larger areas. If you wrap it around your finger and swipe across the desired area in small circular motions, it will give a nice soft blended look, and get rid of a lot of the "tooth" you can see in the paper on your initial layers (although it removes the -look- of the 'tooth' it does not completely remove it causing burnishing) the one downside to this is that it does remove some value, so it makes the pencil lighter, but you can always go over it with more layers if it has not burnished (aka; become shiny to the point where you can no longer add layers as the pencil has no "tooth" or texture to hold on to)

Moral of the story- you can use tissue to blend pencil XD

hope this helps~

A frustration to overcome is let's say you've done a brilliant drawing, but the next one isn't quite as good, you feel disapointed, but don't be hard on yourself, there are ups and downs on the art journey.

Good work. There aren’t that many artists of color that I see (coming from a person of color) but it’s great to see this on YouTube. I love diversity in the art community!!!

I've never understood the comments about reference photos and why it's 'cheating'. All the old masters, like Rembrandt, van Gogh, Picasso, Monet all used references whether models or gardens and nature to capture their likewise. That's now we mainly make art. Especially people portraits are very difficult to do well because we easily see changes or differences in people's faces in comparison to a bouquet of flowers for example. Loving your videos Temi!! Keep making and teaching us beautiful art!
