How to build a DIY 2x4 Sofa for $160!

This week I built DIY finger joint indoor / outdoor sofa out of 2x4’s that breaks down and assembles easily. This simple DIY 2x4 sofa is built using a clever and unique design with removable end tables. I used accessible tools, and DIY techniques to create this sofa, and the whole thing slots together using the joints and friction. 2x4’s are back to normal prices so its the perfect time to build this DIY 2x4 finger jointed indoor/outdoor sofa using limited tools. 2x4 Season has begun. Such a simple design and perfect for if you need to move as it comes apart. The addition of the slot in end tables is what sets it apart in my view. A nice touch.

I like the design a lot and I really like the concept. Rounding the edges is what makes it - great touch!
The only thing I would change would be to use the same vertical slat arrangement for the seat - as opposed to the slats laid flat - to increase rigidity but also have a more robust front look that the skirt offers

Jonny - I just built this sofa. Beautiful design, but definitely needed fasteners throughout the entire build. Maybe I didn’t glue it down well, but the sections kept falling apart on me.
I also added 2 boards to run across the top.

This is exactly the kind of (ideas) sofa, and other things, I would make, if I was a carpenter. And now thanks to you, sims not so impossible, even when I don't have a workshop of my one. Furthermore, if you, at some point, don't want the sofa anymore, you can use the component peaces for something totally different. Brilliant idea with this sofa! Very well done!
The only thing I may be doing different, is that I may't be choosing the sitting cushion a bit thicker.

This is fantastic - thanks for sharing. Ideas I would consider as I want this for outdoor use: for the seat bottom - don't add the extra board in-between, but maybe close up spacing between boards a bit. Then similar for seat back, just using your finger jointing, but step back the boards to go up on the angle and the you would not need the back brace. It does mean the sides would not be all the same length, but as you did when you assembled, marked and cut, you could cut those too (just ideas). I really appreciate the motivation! Our wood prices are still a bit crazy, so when I finally get to make this, I will definitely tag you!

Great idea. It's a great way to custom fit a couch for a odd size rooms like a tiny house living room, campers, schoolies. I'm going to remember this one for sure. Nice touch with the end tables inserts (and you salvaged your cut mistake lol.
