How To Detune Your New Snowboard for Park

In this quick video I show you my process for detuning a new snowboard for rail riding. There are several ways to detune a snowboard, but over the last few years I have started to not really detune my snowboards at all so I prefer a mellower detune. If you are going to be riding rails regularly it may be worth detuning between your bindings for a more comfortable feel when sliding sideways on rails and boxes. If you have a snowboard that you will be using primarily only for jibs, you could even detune the entire length of the board, however you won't have much edge hold after doing that. Detuning is a pretty simple and straightforward process, and really is based on personal preference so I would recommend starting small and then taking more edge off if you want. You really only have to dull the edge a little to feel a noticeable difference. I hope this video helps you out, thanks for watching.

One of my goals for the season is to start doing rails in an attempt to become a level 100 Rail God, so Ill be sure to give it a mellow detune. Youre killing it brotha happy shredding!

Interesting topic! Your detune technique makes totally sense for rails. What's your take on base edge bevel? I read it's a good alternative to make a board more forgiving if it feels too responsive, instead of just detuning contact points.

Dude I was tossing up between the Ride Helix and TP but in the end decided on the Helix...initial flex test I must say it felt a lot softer than I was expecting, can’t wait to shred it 🙌🏻

TJ thanks for the info, this is a highly debated topic, whether to detune or not. You help bring clarity of how and when it's needed. Thanks bro!

interesting - in the most videos the people say you have to detune the edges near the contact points, you say focus on the edges between the bindings which makes much more sense to me :-)

What essentially do the contact points do where are they? I want to carve on harder snow but spin tail nose butters, when I spin them now tip and tail catch slightly.

Been going to Snowworld a lot this year... One correction. Holland is a region in the Netherlands, Landgraaf is not in Holland. ;)

So I’m still a beginner when it comes to tuning my board, so am I right in assuming if you feel your are not getting a solid edge hold you should sharpen your edges? And like you said you only detune if ur hitting rails?
