In this talk Erle Rahaman-Noronha demonstrates our impact on the environment, and how this in turns 're-impacts' us. He also demonstrates how good farming practices can transform our landscapes. His very humble and enduring talk leaves the viewer with pertinent food for thought.

Erle Rahaman-Noronha is the Kenyan-born owner of Wa Samaki Ecosystems and a Carnival lover. He lived in Canada and now resides in Trinidad where he is remodeling a former citrus estate through permaculture restoration. He teaches and practices Permaculture, producing indigenous food crops, tropical fish and cut flowers on his farm which has won Agricultural Entrepreneur awards for forestry, aquaculture and horticulture. In 2011, Rahaman-Noronha was the winner of the National Agricultural Entrepreneur award for Agroforestry.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is very heartening. I just recently looked at a vid about an Australian showing how permaculture can be done in a yard, from minding a few chickens and ducks and fish using the manure to fertilize the plants. I like that you showed the recycled garbage, the 2 litre bottles to grow shallow rooted herbs. Thank you.

I am a Trini and it is obvious that Mr Rahaman-Noronha has a passion for the subject matter but to be honest I do not care about the environment. The reason is very simple as a local Trinidadian we have been disenfranchised from economic mobility even with a Masters education. The corruption here is very high and unless you are willing to pay  a premium for land as a local it is out of reach. Even basic healthcare is out of reach for most Trinidadians, so even if the turtles die, the scarlet ibis dies etc it really does  not matter to me. The rich corrupt politicians and corrupt business men will leave and send their kids to the developed world and will leave the rest of us who are too poor to afford to leave here.
